Center for International Education
(CIE) is a comprehensive unit committed to developing, promoting and implementing international education initiatives for students, faculty, staff and our community. The Center’s activities include study abroad, international admissions, International student and scholar services, strategic international partnerships, connecting local and global issues through outreach, supporting the employment of foreign national faculty, and promoting campus internationalization.
Job SummaryThe Director of International Student & Scholar Services creates and defines departmental goals and objectives, supervises staff and oversees the daily operation of all International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) team activities within the Center for International Education. The ISSS team is responsible for immigration advising for international students, scholars and employees, and ensuring UWM’s compliance with federal regulations governing the institution’s ability to host international students, scholars, and employees. The Director provides guidance and leadership in a continually changing regulatory and higher education environment and must stay abreast of changes from the U.S. Departments of State, Homeland Security, and Labor and convey these changes to ISSS, international students, scholars, employees, and the UWM community.
Work will be performed primarily on-site. Hybrid work options may be available with specifics regarding work location requirements discussed during the interview process.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
Prior experience as a Designated School Official (DSO)
Two years of experience working with international students in an educational environment
Preferred Qualifications
Five or more years working in higher education
Master’s Degree
Supervisory experience of two or more staff
Experience with SEVIS Batch Processing
Experience as a Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) and Responsible Officer (RO)
Demonstrated experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to advocate for international students
Target Salary Range$80,000-$90,000/annually (Salary will be determined by finalist's experience, training, education, and equity-based factors.)
