Senior Director of Law Enforcement (Chief of Police)

Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is looking for a Chief of Police to lead our Tribal Police department. The Chief of Police serves as a highly visible, public-facing representative of the Choctaw Nation throughout the community, leading a team of 100+ associates with an operating budget of around $8 million. This role acts as an advocate for the safety and security of the Choctaw Nation, building and enhancing relationships with tribal leadership, tribal officers, and community partners to enhance overall public safety.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan and develop program activities, methods and procedures for implementing programs.

Select personnel according to knowledge and experience in areas such as social or public welfare, education, economics, or public relations.

Instruct employees on specific tasks and job techniques, ensuring requests are completed as stated.

Represent the Executive Director in any formal function, meeting, or event where the Executive Director is unable to attend.

Review reports and records of activities to monitor program objectives and modify methodologies to attain objectives.

Gather, analyze, and interpret statistical reports to achieve more effective deployment of officers, reduce the crime rate, and traffic accidents.

Assign officers to special investigations as needs arise for their specific skills.

Develop, manage, and maintain departmental budget, control expenditures, assess departmental needs, and recommend purchases of new or replacement equipment.

Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field and eight [8] years of directly related experience, two [2] of which must be supervisory; OR ten [10] years of directly related experience in lieu of education, two [2] of which must be supervisory.

At least 21 years of age.

Possess a valid State driver’s license.

Able to qualify yearly with department firearms.

Must be able to pass a background check.

Basic computer skills for report writing, composition, or correspondence.

Ability to use law enforcement communication equipment.

Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions.

Ability to work effectively and efficiently in high stress and conflict situations.

Ability to exercise independent judgment and make logical decisions.
