About Us:
Fable Therapeutics (Fable) is a discovery-stage biotechnology company which develops non-cell-based therapeutic responses where and when it matters.
Fable is powered by state-of-the-art structure and sequence-based protein language models. Founded by leading ML scientists and veteran biotech entrepreneurs together with top-tier venture capital firms, Fable has recently initiated its internal therapeutic pipeline and has enacted a growing list of pharma research collaborations.
Backed by a 2024 $40M Series A investment co-led by Versant Ventures and DCVC, Fable is positioned to lead in the purposeful integration of biology and computation to solve complex medical challenges. Fable’s aspiration is to write the next chapter of what protein-based therapeutics can do.
Description:
We are seeking a highly talented and motivated scientist to join our growing team and conduct antibody and biologics screening and characterization for drug discovery. In close collaboration with our machine learning team, the experiments you design and data you provide will also be used to train state-of-the-art machine learning models. Your hands-on experience with cell-based assays (e.g., proliferation, cytotoxicity, apoptosis, receptor activation, internalization, cytokine secretion, immune cell activity, gene expression response) for antibody and biologics screening and characterization (reporter cells, primary cells) using a variety of techniques (e.g., flow cytometry, luminescence, fluorescence, cell imaging) is needed. With your enthusiasm and teamwork, you will have the chance to learn and collaborate with other bench scientists and with machine learning scientists (dry-lab) as part of our multi-disciplinary approach to discover and develop precision engineered drug candidates. This is an on-site role. Flexible working hours to promote a balance between productivity and wellness can be accommodated with manager approval.
Responsibilities:
Cell-based assays (e.g., proliferation, cytotoxicity, apoptosis, receptor activation, internalization, cytokine secretion, immune cell activity, gene expression response) for antibody and biologics screening and characterization (reporter cells, primary cells) using a variety of techniques (e.g., flow cytometry, luminescence, fluorescence, cell imaging)
Generate in-house and obtain commercially fit-for-purpose cell lines
Flexibly learn and contribute for a variety of laboratory assays for screening and characterization of candidate molecules (cell-based and non-cell-based)
Analyze and present data and conclusions to colleagues from a variety of backgrounds
Ensure seamless access to own and others’ data for machine learning
Contribute to building and establishing the Discovery Biologics laboratory capabilities
Help teach colleagues as part of building a collaborative team
CRO management as needed
About You:
BSc with 5-10 years or MSc with 3-5 years industry experience.
Previous experience in metabolic syndrome or Diabetes area is preferred.
Experience with development and validation of cell-based assays (e.g., proliferation, cytotoxicity, apoptosis, receptor activation, internalization, cytokine secretion, immune cell activity, gene expression response) for testing antibody and biologics function in vitro (reporter cell line, primary cells from human blood and PBMC) using a variety of techniques (e.g., flow cytometry, luminescence, fluorescence, cell imaging)
Experience with cell transfection/transduction and creation of fit-for-purpose cell lines.
Additional hands-on experience with other types of non-cell-based assays (e.g. qRT-PCR, Nanostring, Western blot, AlphaLISA) is a plus.
Experience with automation and liquid handling equipment for sample preparation and assay execution is a plus.
Experience and understanding of antibody and biologics discovery is a plus but not required.
Previous mouse in vivo study experience is a plus but not required.
Strong sense of initiative and interest in learning new technologies and addressing disease-relevant biology.
Enjoy collaborating with diverse scientists in both the wet-lab and dry-lab.
Enthusiasm for disrupting drug discovery with new approaches to data generation & curation to allow leveraging of machine learning technologies.
At Fable Therapeutics, we know that our people drive our success. We are an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity and inclusion. Fable Therapeutics provides an open, collegial, and friendly work environment where we empower people and provide them with opportunities to develop their long-term careers.
