Position Overview
The Illinois State Police is hiring for the position of Executive Secretary I in our Division of Criminal Investigation, Zone 1 Office. Under direction, handles sensitive administrative secretarial work. Makes independent decisions within defined limits requiring knowledge of department rules, regulations and functions; transcribes recordings as needed; assists with inventory for Zone 1 office; exercise considerable independent judgment in handling correspondence and responding to requests on behalf of the Zone; assists with sworn timekeeping; assists in the compilation of monthly reporting statistics; acts as receptionist.

Essential Functions
Coordinates special projects; gathers, researches and analyzes information to prepare administrative reports regarding assigned personnel.As administrative secretary, composes and replies to routine and non-routine correspondence and ensures completeness and accuracy.Receives and directs the flow of incoming data to Zone 1 Command and the Zone 1 offices, screens for priority and routes to appropriate personnel for follow-up.Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two years secretarial or business college and one year of secretarial experience; or completion of high school and three years of secretarial experience.
Requires the ability to type 55 wpm.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefers a minimum of (3) three years' experience of office practices and procedures and programs.Prefers a minimum of (3) three years' experience of composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation.Prefers a minimum of (3) three years' experience in the logic of computer programs.Prefers (2) two years' experience operating commonly used manual and automated office equipment and perform routine maintenance.Prefers (2) two years professional experience writing and conducting oral communication.
