Summary ObjectiveThe purpose of this position is to conduct office and field inspections and perform investigations of all licensed and permitted premises and operations to ensure compliance with all applicable statutes, ordinances, codes, rules, and regulations. Possess full police powers within Metro Louisville. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Possesses full Police Powers within Metro Louisville.Conducts office and field inspections and performs investigations of all licensed and non-licensed premises and operations to ensure compliance with all applicable statutes, ordinances, codes, rules, and regulations.Investigates complaints on licensed and permitted premises, equipment, vehicles, and related activities for violations of laws and regulations.Compiles evidence should legal action be taken, to gain compliance and testifies in court and at public hearings.Conducts field inspections and investigations and observes criminal actions and violations.Monitors and responds to police dispatched radio calls, as well as all other sources for investigative requests of licensed/permitted premises and/or operations.Prepares reports and completes special projects.Provides the Police Department and other city agencies with information and enforcement assistance regarding alcoholic beverages, various areas of code enforcement, licenses, permits, and licensee-related issues.Receives and investigates complaints from the public, prepares findings, and recommends corrective action.Issues uniform citations and makes physical arrests when necessary.Testifies in court and at administrative hearings.Explains violations to licensees and permit holders and discusses methods to comply with codes and ordinances.Monitors and responds to radio communications.Performs related work as assigned.MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:High School diploma or equivalent and one of the following:
Completion of active military tour of duty in the United States military with an honorable discharge with experience as a Military Police Officer (MP).Employment as a full-time sworn law enforcement officer in the United States within the last twelve months with a minimum of one continuous year of sworn law enforcement experience.Two years of criminal justice, public safety, law enforcement, military police, or investigation experience.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime, and performing related work. Spending prolonged periods of time sitting, standing, walking, carrying, stooping, and climbing. Lifts and carries items weighing more than 100 pounds in a team setting. Conducts field inspections and investigations and observes criminal actions and violations. Monitors and responds to police dispatched radio calls, as well as all other sources for investigative requests of licensed/permitted premises and/or operations. Works at locations with limited or difficult access including uneven terrain, physical restraints, and transports persons during law enforcement activities. Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing, and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT):Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards though precautions have been taken. None.SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:Must not have any interests, directly or indirectly, in any business licensed by the Department of Alcohol Beverage Control. Must be able to meet proficiency, safety, and qualifications standards of firearms as a law enforcement officer in the State of Kentucky. Must be a US Citizen. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age. Must not have been convicted of a felony. Must submit to a pre-employment drug screening. Must submit to a pre-employment polygraph test. Must submit to a pre-employment psychological test. Must be on 24-hour call. Must work a varied schedule. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
