You must apply through the State of Montana Career site.The Role:This position is responsible for providing technical support for the users and computers in FWP's Helena Region. Responsibilities include: working with end users to resolve application and hardware problems; assisting users with the State's Procurement process for obtaining any IT products or services; maintaining inventory records and maintenance records for agency hardware and software; and planning and scheduling computer conversions and upgrades. Network Services technicians are physically located in FWP's regional headquarters. Technicians must be able to work alone but have the ability to collaborate electronically with their peers that are spread across the entire state. The Network Services Bureau is also responsible for providing support for the Automated Licensing System provider's terminal, printers, and operating systems. Each regional technician is responsible for the file and print servers located in their regions. Responsibilities include: managing and installing central printers; installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining software including operating systems, shared applications, utilities, and upgrades; maintaining documentation on server configuration; and monitoring server disk space utilization and availability of shared resources. This position enjoys a wide variety of technical challenges. A typical day can start with providing video conference support for a Fish and Wildlife Commission meeting, updating a code plug on a warden's radio, and finally helping a home office employee access the agency's internal site. This position requires some travel and occasional irregular hours to meet project deadlines or to resolve major hardware or software problems. Weekend hours are also to be expected occasionally. Long hours of PC use are often required.Special Information:Identity of applicants who become finalists may be released to the public if the Department deems it necessary. Employees who exceed 1,040 hours in a calendar year are also provided health, dental, and life insurance. Other benefits include retirement, paid vacation, sick, and holidays. This position may be covered by a VEBA (Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association).A successful applicant will be subject to a background investigation.Women and minorities are under-represented in this job category and are encouraged to apply.Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, information technology, or a related field
