POSITION PURPOSE:
Provides professional services to help students overcome or compensate for deficiencies in occupational performance areas and gain optimum benefit from district special services programming. Evaluates referred students by assessing range of motion, muscle strength, tone and sensory systems, fine motor skills, self-help skills, oral-motor skills and visual-perceptual skills as indicated.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Plan and direct education activities to help mentally, physically, or emotionally disabled students become self-sufficient in the classroom.Evaluate the capacities and skills of students, set goals and plan therapy programs.Assist students in performing activities in the educational setting ranging from using a computer to caring for daily needs.Work with student using adaptive equipment and aids needed at school.Participate in IEP team meeting as a member to develop goals and objectives and provide progress reports as needed.Document services and provide information for Medicaid billing.Participate in district-sponsored training and networking meetings to further develop programs at individual sites.Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies of the School Board.Participate, successfully, in the training programs offered to increase the individual's skill and proficiency related to the assignments.Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to the assignments.Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board Policies.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Special Education, Chief Instructional Services officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
BA or MA degree in occupational therapy from an accredited program as determined by the Superintendent.Currently licensed and /or eligible for licensure from the South Carolina board of Occupational Therapist Examiners.Experience working with school age children preferred.Bilingual skills preferred.EXPERIENCE :
Minimum of three years experience as a licensed Occupational Therapist.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
