We operate in a collaborative environment with a flat organizational structure and expect a high degree of integrity, autonomy and creativity from all members of the team.About the RoleThe Test Engineering Technician will work closely with the test and integration engineering team to build, coordinate, and execute critical testing programs that validate the performance, safety, and reliability of the Lightship product line. Lightship and this role are highly collaborative environments! You will be working cross-functionally with multiple engineering organizations to work towards our common goal of building the best all electric camping experience possible.
Responsibilities
Set up and execute a wide range of electrical and mechanical product tests. Testing includes: safety, performance, and reliability tests with development and pre-production level parts and assemblies.Lead in-test reporting of progress, failures, and testing risks to the test engineering team both onsite and remote.Collaborate with test and development engineers during post-test root cause analysis to identify failure modes and areas for product improvement.Fabricate various mechanical and electrical test fixtures using a range of manufacturing processes.Domestically travel (up to 30%) to support field testing at a range of test facilities including: automotive test tracks, environmental chambers, remote test sites (and campgrounds!).Maintain all tools and equipment in the lab and continue to acquire and install new equipment to increase lab capabilities.Maintain test assets (vehicles, bucks, mules and test rigs) and prepare them for testing, evaluation and demonstration.Collaborate with test engineers and program managers during the test planning phase to ensure feasible and realistic alignment with program goals.Be an early core part of the Lightship test and integration team driving safety, process, and cultural improvements every day.Prior Experience
6+ years experience working as a technician in the automotive/EV, cleantech, or aerospace industries.Experience creating custom wire harnesses and test fixtures with little oversight.Experience instrumenting test articles with sensors such as accelerometers, thermocouples, electrical sensors working off of a documented test plan.Demonstrated experience working in and maintaining a lab development environment.Working knowledge of automotive and AC electrical systems.Experience troubleshooting software, CAN messaging and calibration testing of control algorithms a plus.Experience generating technical documents for training and test report generation (PowerPoint, Word, etc).Experience with data acquisition systems and measurement devices.Experience with soldering and instrumenting circuit boards.You may also have
Prior experience working in an automotive test lab.Exposure to and proficiency with high voltage safety.Experience with JIRA/program management software tools.Experience with power electronics.Experience with electric motors and propulsion systems.
