One Nevada Credit Union has an excellent career opportunity for a Controller. This accounting professional will plan and direct the fiscal record-keeping activities of the Credit Union and the functions within the accounting department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS -
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning and Directing
45%
* Analyzes related operational trends, systems, and procedures;
* Recommends and implements changes as needed to efficiently meet the present and future accounting needs of the Credit Union;
* Prepares budgets, financial statements, trend analyses, performance reports, and regulatory reports;
* Prepares and analyzes member and product profit reports;
* Maintains financial reporting for all Credit Union subsidiaries;
* Makes recommendations to Senior Management in all areas of financial management;
* Selects, trains, motivates, disciplines, conducts performance appraisals, and develops reporting staff members;
* Conducts periodic staff meetings and training programs;
* Establishes goals and work plans for the department and monitors progress toward meeting those goals;
* Solves complex problems by providing solutions, keeping in mind quality service and Credit Union goals and objectives;
* Drafts and propose department budget and monitors expenditures for assigned expense items;
* Serves in the absence of senior management, providing leadership and direction;
* Represents One Nevada at various internal and external functions to promote the Credit Union; and
* Works with the other leaders in Financial Operations to assist with planning and organizing all tasks and activities while ensuring that all related systems are properly functioning and well-controlled.
Controlling

* Ensures proper maintenance of all general ledger functions;
* Ensures systems and spreadsheets are maintained to provide relevant and accurate reporting;
* Designs and adjusts various accounting systems to efficiently meet the control needs of the Credit Union;
* Ensures timely and accurate preparation of financial reports;
* Reviews and approves operating expenditures; and
* Ensures proper retention, maintenance, and availability of all financial records, supporting ledgers, reconciliations, and reports through each audit period.
Organizing
20%
* Coordinates with other areas of the Credit Union to ensure proper communication of procedures on all issues related to the Credit Union accounting functions;
* Develops, revises, and recommends written accounting policies, procedures, and job organization for all Accounting related functions;
* Ensures procedures and practices comply with standards set by NCUA and GAAP;
* Serves as liaison between Credit Union Accounting department, subsidiary accounting departments, regulatory and IRS authorities, auditors, and other pertinent outside entities to ensure proper communications on accounting issues;
* Represents the Credit Union Accounting department to outside entities such as vendors, examiners, auditors, and support companies; and
* Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Thorough knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of automated accounting methods for a full-service financial institution;
* Thorough knowledge of GAAP and NCUA accounting requirements;
* Thorough knowledge of institutional investment accounting techniques;
* Thorough knowledge of Federal Reserve Bank institutional member policy and procedural requirements;
* Thorough knowledge of current EFT (ATM, credit and debit card, ACH, and bill-payer) systems, methods and controls;
* Thorough knowledge of item processing systems, methods, and controls;
* Thorough knowledge of asset/liability management and multidivisional budgeting techniques;
* Knowledge of current credit union regulatory requirements;
* Knowledge of purchasing systems, methods, and controls;
* Knowledge of related IRS reporting requirements for a full-service credit union and a credit union service organization;
* Skill in the operation of a personal computer, including Internet/Intranet, operating system, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, calendar, and scheduling software;
* Advanced skill in using spreadsheet applications, including knowledge of complex formulas and macros.
* Ability to analyze situations and recommend solutions;
* Ability to manage, direct, and supervise the work of others;
* Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
* Ability to coordinate a variety of functions simultaneously and prioritize work;
* Ability to maintain regularly scheduled attendance;
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; and

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field and five years of progressively responsible management and upper-level accounting experience. The candidate must complete the ONCU Proactive Leadership programs within 24 months of position acceptance.
