Nanook Technology Services (NTS) is seeking new students to join our team! While here, you will work with IT experts to provide first-class customer support, solve complex problems, and explore the boundaries of new technologies. As a student assistant, you will work with full-time employees to provide first-class customer support and solve technological problems. Students interested in learning more about technology in a fun and educational environment should consider applying for this position. We are looking for individuals with excellent customer service and communication skills.
Duties include:
Answering phones and assisting walk-in customers.
Troubleshooting student and university-owned technology such as smart classrooms, computers, digital signs, printers, and conference rooms.
Collaborating with the UA Office of Information Technology and other IT services staff to support technology tasks.
Providing technical troubleshooting support in various complex and stressful situations, offering solutions within standard procedures and guidelines.
Writing and performing test plans as part of new vendor onboarding or retroactive documentation.
Creating technical documentation during the development of new vendor support infrastructure.
Researching new technologies and products available to the higher education market and documenting user stories from departments as part of the development lifecycle.
Summarizing changes in the portfolio of vendor offerings and service catalog listings.
Participating in and contributing to hackathons, communities of code, and student engagement collaborations.
To thrive in this role, the NTS Student Assistant must be a customer-oriented and friendly individual capable of handling occasional stressful situations. They should have a basic understanding of technology and major desktop and mobile operating systems and possess an interest in and willingness to learn about technology. Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate professionally and courteously over the phone and via video. The work must be accomplished efficiently, particularly in an unsupervised environment, and the assistant must be able to communicate with customers using tact and discretion. Additionally, they must have demonstrated problem-solving skills to resolve technology problems, including the ability to identify, prioritize, and resolve operational issues promptly.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience sufficient to be able to learn skills in information systems technology and customer service.
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Experience in the use of modern operating system software and technology hardware.
Valid Drivers’ License and Clean Driving Record.
Applicant should be enrolled as a student in a minimum of 6 credits with a minimum GPA of 2.0, or a newly enrolled student, or the intent to enroll in 6 credit hours during the upcoming semester.
Preferred:
Customer service, technical aptitude.
Prior experience is desired but not required (NTS is willing to invest in training and career development).
Experience in the use of modern operating system software and technology hardware.
Valid Drivers’ License and Clean Driving Record.
Position Details:
This position is a part-time position up to 20 hours per week while school is in session. A shift may be required during non-standard business hours, with some flexibility. Additional hours may be available during the summer and winter breaks. Student Assistant positions are fully on-site. Starting hourly rate is $16.00/hr. Compensation is commensurate with experience and type of work assigned.
