Position Purpose:
The AV/IT Engineer at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth is responsible for providing advanced technical support and integrating audio-visual systems into the broader IT infrastructure. This includes the acquisition, installation, and configuration of AV systems for various learning environments. This role involves creating and manipulating scripts for automation, ensuring seamless operation and security of AV systems, and delivering comprehensive support to faculty, staff, and students. Additionally, the AV/IT Engineer will consult on best practices, implement process improvements, and perform regular maintenance and troubleshooting to maintain system reliability and efficiency.
Required Qualifications - Education and Years Experience:
Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in an AV/IT engineering environment.
Advanced expertise in AV systems, IT hardware/software, and equipment maintenance.
Proven ability to manage complex AV installations and troubleshoot sophisticated technical issues.
Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead and coordinate technical teams.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and advanced project management software.
Experience with computer programming languages or automation.
Excellent communication and training abilities, with a demonstrated capacity for technical documentation and instructional design.
Ability to quickly learn and integrate emerging technologies into existing systems.
Deep understanding of Windows and Mac OS X operating systems, as well as network infrastructure and configuration.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP networking, including in-depth experience with network protocols such as IGMP and multicast, as well as VLAN configuration and management.
Proficient in AV software for system configuration, including the integration and troubleshooting of complex AV networks.
Skilled in audio tuning and optimization, including the use of DSPs for acoustic analysis and calibration.
Adept at creating automated workflows and solutions to enhance system efficiency and reliability.

Configures, maintains, and repairs AV systems, including server applications, network switches, conferencing systems, audio processors, projectors, and displays. Diagnoses and resolves AV issues (e.g., audio problems, connectivity issues, power failures) using tools like multimeters, software probes, and test generators.
Ensures equipment security by maintaining protective settings on AV devices.
Integrates AV systems with IT infrastructure, managing encoded streams and other integrations.
Creates and adjusts AV system code, and scripts for system monitoring tools using PUTTY, Postman, Wireshark, Terminal, Command Line, etc.
Manages LANs and VLANs for AV equipment and control systems. Maintains records of installations and repairs, continuously monitors systems, and conducts quality assurance tests.
Manages licenses and software inventories related to AV systems and projects.
Maintains vendor relationships for hardware and software support.

Documents AV issues in the ticketing system. Manages systems for operations, including user interaction forms and inventory control.
Assists in maintaining departmental databases, documentation libraries, and equipment inventories.
Assists in the management of lecture capture recording systems to ensure timely session recordings, updating schedules, and making manual edits when necessary.
Purchases AV and IT equipment following Dartmouth policies and procedures.

Manages AV/IT projects from planning to completion, including deployments and upgrades. Assists with installations, configurations, and testing.
Evaluates and recommends AV equipment and technologies for integration into Geisel AV systems.
Contributes to long-term planning with insights on technology options and process improvements. Proactively identifies opportunities for tools and procedures that enhance systems and processes, developing and implementing appropriate solutions.

Provides prompt support and troubleshooting for AV technology issues with minimal supervision, working directly with Medical School faculty, staff, and students. Maintains and updates instructions and knowledge base articles.
Trains and consults with community members on technology use through one-on-one or group sessions, assessing needs and technical skills to maximize effectiveness. Advises end-users on the use of videoconferencing systems (e.g., Zoom, WebEx, Teams) with Geisel AV systems.
