Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for working directly with individuals who are transitioning from jail to the community; providing evidence-based interventions, reentry planning and case management during incarceration.Duties and Responsibilities
Performs risk/needs assessments to identify areas of concern; and facilitates referral to external and internal intervention programsConducts reentry interventions including evidence based programs, parenting, life skills, and/or cognitive behavioral based classes with detaineesSchedules and monitors MATCH/PATCH contact visits between incarcerated parents and their childrenMaintains program files, tracks statistical data and documents interactions with detainee to include internal and external referrals, cognitive behavior steps, transitional plan, and other workload tasksPrepares and facilitates class presentations/groups with detainees, materials and presents information to inmates, cadets, volunteers, interns, community based organizations, colleges, businesses, and other government agenciesWorks with community-based; agencies to ensure program participant is informed about support services prior to releasePlans and coordinates special activities, projects, and events for the incarcerated and their families which support reentry effortsPerforms other related duties as requiredMinimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college with Associates Degree in Social Services, Psychology, Criminal Justice or related field and two (2) years' experience in Social Services related work or an equivalent combination of education, certification and experienceProficient knowledge of community-based agencies and assistance programs; and detention/correctional operations and practicesSkill in utilizing tact and diplomacy when dealing with diverse groups of individuals; demonstrated capacity to handle multiple tasks, projects and meet deadlines; follows established policies, procedures and directives of the Sheriff's Office; facilitate new curriculums with fidelity and in conjunction with best practicesAbility to function effectively as a facilitator in a highly detailed, structured, and analytical manner in accordance with BCSO procedures; ability to work in a team environment, while also working independently; ability to operate personal computer, basic office equipment, basic office software, and transition strategy software; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, outside agencies/vendors and the public; and to maintain confidentiality of clientsMust be able to effectively conduct programs and daily tasks professionally with a diverse group of offenders and their familiesMust be able to attend and successfully complete necessary training; apply the knowledge gained in an efficient manner to each applicable programMust secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearanceMust clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen testMay be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek, modified schedule, or special shift if requiredWorking Environment and Physical Demands:
Constantly working in a jail/correctional environmentFrequent exposure to hostile or violent individuals with frequent exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, and/or other potentially infectious materialOccasional exposure to outdoor weather environment during events or traveling between buildingsOccasionally moves items weighing up to 25 poundsOccasionally moves about the officeFrequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate informationConstantly operates a computer and other office productivity machineryPositions self to perform essential functionsMust be able to remain in a stationary position
