An exciting opportunity is available for a
Chief Accounting Officer (CAO)
to lead the accounting operations of a prominent public sector organization. We’re seeking a strategic finance leader who can ensure fiscal integrity, drive robust internal controls, and enhance financial transparency across all levels of the organization.
In this role, the CAO will provide visionary leadership by collaborating with senior executives, overseeing comprehensive financial policies, and managing a skilled accounting team. This position offers a fulfilling opportunity to influence financial practices in the public sector and make a meaningful impact.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily operations of the Accounting Division, ensuring compliance with regulations and financial best practices.
Manage the completion of the organization’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and Federal Awards Schedule, including coordinating required audits.
Direct Federal and State grant compliance and reporting efforts, with a focus on transparency and accountability.
Oversee preparation of monthly and annual financial statements for pension fund trustees.
Support new and refinanced bond issues, managing compliance with bond arbitrage and related financial reporting requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 9 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with a blend of public and government experience.
Proven experience in a senior accounting or financial management role, with supervisory experience.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) preferred.
Expertise in accounting software, financial databases, and project management tools.
Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills, with a results-driven approach to problem-solving.

$86,715.20 - $157,248.00 Annually
