Description

Performs, completes and oversees the full range of general dentistry treatment activities to ensure appropriate dental health standards and practices are maintained for patients

Essential Functions:Provides comprehensive dental examination and diagnosis of patients through use of history, radiographs and other appropriate testsDiagnoses and treats diseases, injuries and malformation of teeth and oral structure within scope of clinical privilegesPrescribes medications for control of infection, pain, viral, bacterial and fungal infectionsReviews medical histories and records dental treatments in medical charts to ensure proper and timely documentationEvaluates and verifies of employee competency through review of completed work assignments and work techniques to ensure adherence with established practice, methods and proceduresExamines teeth, takes and/or reviews oral radiographs to establish a plan of care to restore teeth and reviews with patient and/or patient family to ensure understandingPerforms a variety of restorative and/or corrective procedures including, but not limited to: prepares teeth for amalgam or like filling, takes impressions and identifies type of corrective appliance, fits and/or seats permanent or removable dental appliances, performs simple extractions of teeth and applies/removes sutures as appropriateAdministers topical and local anesthesia and monitors patient's reaction; takes appropriate action and/or pre-caution to ensure ongoing patient safetyProvides instructions in oral hygiene and methods/practices to prevent spread of oral diseasesProvides guidance and direction to Dental Assistants, Hygienists and other support staffResponds to and provides emergency treatment of teeth and oral surfaces resulting from trauma, pain and/or infection within scope of clinical privilegesWorks collaboratively with other medical and specialty areas of dentistry to discuss and obtain consultative services for cases requiring multi-disciplinary approachParticipates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiativesParticipates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with SupervisorPerforms other job related activities as requested/requiredRequirements

Current and valid U.S. State license to practice dentistry: Arizona license within one year of hireGraduation from an accredited program of study by the American Dental Association; DDS or DMDCompletion of an American Dental Association approved clinical residency program in the specialty area; Board certification designation preferredCurrent basic CPR designation or ability to obtain with 30 days of hire
