LHH is currently seeking a Senior Accountant for our client in La Jolla, CA. This contract-to-hire role offers a hybrid working environment. The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Director of Accounting to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, assist with audits, and help maintain robust internal controls.

The anticipated compensation is between $38.46-$ 53.88/hr.

Responsibilities:

Generate timely quarterly and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and footnotes.

Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations, general ledger reconciliations, and other necessary financial reconciliations.

Prepare monthly journal entries, including those related to investments, payroll, fixed assets, accruals, prepaid expenses, and accounts receivables.

Accurately verify and record accounts payable invoices; prepare accounts receivable invoices for intercompany costs and grants.

Review, reconcile, and prepare journal entries for grants.

Maintain investment records, ensuring the receipt of timely investment statements, tax documents, and review periodic wire transfer forms for investment transactions.

Prepare annual 1099s, use tax/property tax reports, and assist with not-for-profit tax returns.

Process expense reimbursement reports and ensure compliance.

Assist with continuous enhancement of accounting processes and internal controls.

Provide research and assistance on accounting issues, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Work collaboratively or independently on special projects as assigned.

Education and Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is strongly preferred. A CPA designation is also preferred.

At least 5-7 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally within nonprofit organizations.

Familiarity with QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience with accounting for alternative/private equity investments is a plus.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

High ethical standards.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
