NextEra Energy is developing cutting-edge geospatial data science solutions to accelerate renewable development and build the grid of tomorrow—come join our world-class team today!The Geospatial Data Scientist for the Transmission Fundamentals team will be responsible for developing novel datasets, conducting geospatial analyses using programmatic tools, and providing cartography to support transmission and renewable energy projects across the United States and Canada. The candidate will work collaboratively with a team of other geospatial data scientists and power modelers. Successful candidates will have demonstrated fluency in working with diverse geospatial and time-series data along with experience in algorithm development and data visualization. This position is part of a team performing technical modeling and analysis to identify, evaluate, and support development of new transmission and renewable energy projects. Our goal is to identify opportunities where others have not!Key Responsibilities• Collaborate with colleagues to create new datasets and tools for broad-scale geospatial analysis to be used to identify, design, and evaluate transmission and renewable energy opportunities• Produce, manipulate, and harmonize datasets to support automated analyses• Collaborate with internal and external Subject Matter Experts to arrive at the most cost-effective and competitive transmission and renewable energy solutions• Perform other job-related duties as assignedDesired Qualifications• Experience in geospatial data analysis and modeling, preferably including open-source geospatial libraries• Programming skills in Python and experience with Git• Ability to coordinate activities with multiple internal and external SMEs• Experience with HPC and/or cloud computing (e.g., AWS)• Background in geography, environmental science, renewable energy, or power systemsJob Overview

This position is responsible for developing algorithms, modeling techniques, and optimization methods that support many aspects of NextEra and FPL business. Employees in this role use knowledge of machine learning, optimization, statistics, and applied mathematics along with abilities in software engineering with a focus on distributed computing and data storage infrastructure (e.g. “Big Data”).Job Duties & Responsibilities

Develops machine learning, optimization and other modeling solutionsPrepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results including technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analysesWorks with a variety of datasets, including timeseries data and “big data” requiring analysis on distributed computing platformsWrites software in R, Python or similar languages and contributes code to product development teamsPerforms other job-related duties as assignedRequired Qualifications
