Position Purpose:
Leads Thayer career services activities that support the professional development and job search activities of students and alumni. Advises and counsels graduate and undergraduate engineering students and alumni/ae on job search strategies, helping build their career readiness and transition skills. Develops relationships with employers, faculty, and alumni on behalf of Thayer’s students and collaborates with development and other staff colleagues on the implementation of a coordinated external relations program.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors plus 6 or more years' experience or combination of education and experience.
6+ years of experience in career counseling and/or professional development in higher education.
Exceptional knowledge of current practices in career and professional development, and demonstrated skills in innovative and strategic approaches to career services programming, technology, and coaching.
Ability to analyze and communicate data, and proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
Effective and persuasive in communicating with key internal and external stakeholders.
Strong supervisory skills and a versatile team player who thrives on student interaction and excels in relationship building.
Proven leadership and management skills.
Ability to exercise independent judgment.
Proven project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in counseling, education, or other related area.
Experience working as an engineer or with engineers in a technical field.
Familiarity with the academic and social pressures encountered by students.
