Job Summary

Assists individuals or small groups of students to enhance learning including providing academic support, behavior intervention and medical support to students in classroom settings. Assists teachers with maintaining a productive classroom environment in special education and general education classrooms, lunchrooms, play environments, including distance learning and field trips.

This is a continuous recruitment which will be used to establish an ongoing eligibility list for current and future hiring purposes.Additionally, successful candidates will be offered the opportunity to substitute in this classification.**

Please note:PIF positions work 35 hours per week, 10 months per year.Positions 20 hours per week or more qualify for District Paid health and wellness benefits for employees and eligible dependents.The starting hourly rate is $22.41 per hour.You must be available to work Monday-Friday in person.The shift time is offered within the school bell schedule.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High School diploma/GED and a passing score on the San Diego Unified School District Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE)orAssociate's degree (or higher) or 48 or more eligible units of coursework at a recognized college or university. Completion of post high school courses in Psychology, Early Childhood Development, Elementary Education, Special Education, or related field is desirable.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Possession of a valid California driver's license. Attend district required training and maintain certification.

FOREIGN EQUIVALENCY CERTIFICATION:Individuals who have completed high school or college-level coursework at an institution in a country other than the United States must provide a Foreign Equivalency Certification to satisfy the education requirement. A Foreign Equivalency Certification can be obtained for a fee from a professional organization that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. Substitute ExperiencePlease note that general or occasional Substitute Experience is not included when determining if a candidate has met the minimum qualifications for the position. Individuals working in related, specific, LONG-TERM substitute assignments of substantial hours per week must specify each separate long-term assignment in their work history in order for this experience to POSSIBLY count towards meeting the minimum qualifications. This information must include an approximate start date, end date (where applicable), specific site, job title, hours per week, and job duties performed for each long-term assignment.

Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE)Applicants who do not have 48 or more eligible units of college-level coursework, will be invited to take the Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE). There is a fee of $8 for the exam. Candidates must attach a copy of a U.S. High School Diploma, U.S. High School Transcript, GED, or Foreign Equivalency Certificate to the online application to be admitted to the exam.

***APPLICANTS WHO FAIL TO PROVIDE PROOF OF EDUCATION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POSITION.***

ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS:Additional documents, if any, may/should be attached to the online employment application. A resume may be attached, but not substituted for completing work history and education sections of the employment application.

ELIGIBLE LIST AND SUBSTITUTE POOL:Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and requirements of the position will be placed on an Eligible List for a period of 12 months. The Eligible List will be used to fill vacancies at various sites. Additionally, qualified candidates will be invited to be processed for placement on the Substitute Pool for this position.
