We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Applications Engineer to join our Tesla Energy Applications team. As an Applications Engineer focused on telemetry and data reporting, you will be the subject matter expert on data collection requirements and standards applicable to Transmission or Distribution interconnection of industrial battery storage systems and renewable power plants. You will be responsible for development, testing and validation of applicable features into Tesla Energy projects including utility-scale battery power plants.As a key technical member of the cross-functional Applications Engineering team within the Energy Projects group, you will be integral to Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy.
Responsibilities
Become familiar with utility and ISO/RTO transmission and distribution interconnection requirements and industry standards for telemetry or data capture (fault recording, sequence of events recording, meter data)Gain in-depth product knowledge on Tesla energy storage system telemetry and data collection capabilitiesFormulate clear and concise feedback to external stakeholders and policy makers for national, regional, wholesale market and utility standards committees or industry working groupsCollect input from a diverse group of stakeholders (customer, sales, service, firmware, hardware, etc.) and distill into user stories and define clear requirements for software and firmware development teamsDevelop internal and external technical documentation to educate customers and adjacent teams about newly deployed functionalities and complianceSupport new Tesla Energy software features by writing specifications and test plans, assisting development and test efforts, managing deployment, and documenting new capabilitiesProvide technical support both internally and externally with customers throughout the sales and deployment of Tesla products into new and complex applicationsRequirements
Degree in Engineering discipline with 2+ years' work experience or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional abilityAbility to quickly become familiar with existing and new standards and regulations and stay up to date on the evolution of requirements applying to Tesla Energy projectsDemonstrated application of analysis, design, and testing to solve complex engineering problemsStrong understanding of Energy systems including devices such as meters, inverters, SCADA controllers, and network systemsDetail oriented and conscientious. Ability to understand subtleties and nuances of regulatory languageSelf-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a teamExperience with digital fault recorders or event capture is desired. Understanding of controls and communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, OPC UA is a plusFamiliarity with Energy industry standards such as NERC reliability guidelines for Inverter-based resources, IEEE 2800, or regional regulations such as CAISO Tariff, Business Practice Manuals, ERCOT nodal guidelines, etc is a plusFamiliarity with programming languages like Python, C, C++, RUST, GO is a plusCompensation and BenefitsBenefits

$104,000 - $222,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
