This global leader is focused on supplying high quality products and growing exponentially through mergers and acquisitions. Currently they are expanding their product lines and Distribution Centers in Southaven, MS (a suburb 14 miles from Memphis, TN) and are seeking an experienced Sr. Warehouse Manager to take the next step of growth into a Director of Warehouse Operations and lead and support their multi-site facilities based in the US and Mexico.
THE POSITION
Job Summary:
The Director of Warehouse Operations will be reporting to the NAR Logistics Director and is responsible for the strategic oversight and management of three Distribution Centers (DCs), including a major facility with more than 120 employees and an average of 17,000 lines shipped per month. This role ensures efficient inbound and outbound flows, oversees customization and repacking lines, manages an inventory valued at over $100 million, and coordinates operations across 5 different divisions serving more than 2,800 customers. The Warehouse Director of Operations will lead efforts to optimize warehouse operations, enhance productivity, ensure on-time delivery, manage returns and warranty processes, and maintain high standards of customer satisfaction, safety, and compliance.
The Role:
The Director of Warehouse Operations will be responsible for overseeing the safety, receipt, storage, retrieval, and timely dispatch of goods (respecting the lead time goals establish by the company).
Ensure timely and accurate processing of inbound and outbound shipments.
Implement and manage efficient warehouse workflows, including receiving, put away, order picking, packing, and shipping.
Direct the customization and repacking lines to meet customer requirements and quality standards.
Plan the arrangement of goods within the distribution center to ensure productivity and on-time delivery targets are met.
Inventory Control:
Maintain oversight of inventory management practices, ensuring accurate stock levels and proper inventory rotation.
Implement inventory control procedures to minimize discrepancies and optimize stock levels.
Provide root cause analyses and action plan for discrepancies.
Establish and monitor cost control programs and inventory control procedures.
Team Leadership:
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of warehouse managers and supervisors.
Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Ensure proper staffing levels, manage overtime, and address turnover and absenteeism issues.
Resolve employee issues, provide training and development, and take corrective actions as needed.
Performance Metrics:
The Director of Warehouse Operations is expected to pursue the achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs) that are critical to the success of the distribution centers. These include Past Due, On-Time Delivery (OTD), Logistic Cost, Inventory Accuracy, Put Away, Daily Invoice, Turnover, and Absenteeism. The Director will implement strategies to meet and exceed these targets, ensuring operational excellence and high levels of customer satisfaction. By closely monitoring these KPIs, the Director will drive continuous improvement initiatives and foster a culture of accountability and efficiency within the warehouse operations team.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all warehouse operations comply with safety regulations and company policies.
Promote a culture of safety, conduct regular safety audits, and lead incident investigations when necessary.
Ensure workplace health and safety standards are met and maintained in accordance with established rules and guidelines.
Ensure compliance with all aspects of trade compliance, governmental regulations, ISO, OSHA, CTPAT, safety programs, etc.
Process Improvement:
Lead 5S improvement initiatives to maintain an organized, clean, and efficient workplace.
Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance operational efficiency.
Lead initiatives to introduce new technologies and automation to streamline warehouse processes (AGVs, Robots, Drones, WMS and etc.).
Direct the development and implementation of logistical programs and business and financial strategies.
Apply the use of tools such as Heating Map, Kanban, Supermarket, reorder point.
Work with divisions to resolve technical issues, including quality issues.
Customer Satisfaction:
Collaborate with customer service, S&OP and Marketing Directors and sales Directors and VPs to understand and meet customer expectations.
Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by maintaining accurate and timely order fulfillment.
Budget Management:
Develop and manage the annual budget for warehouse operations.
Monitor expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure financial targets are met.
Security and Maintenance:
Take responsibility for the security of the building, equipment, and maintenance.
Produce regular reports and statistics on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
THE CANDIDATE
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field; MBA preferred.
Certifications in Six Sigma, Lean, 6S, NAFTA, Trade Compliance, CTPAT are desirable.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in warehouse operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing multiple facilities.
Prior experience with warehouse, distribution, or facilities management required.
Proven track record of managing large-scale warehouse operations and teams.
Strong knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory control practices; Oracle experience preferred.
Strong documentation experience effectively managing salaried and hourly staff.
Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, creative, and problem-solving skills.
Candidate should possess core competencies in Process Management, Inventory Control, Quality, Planning, and Resource Management.
Proven ability to analyze and interpret data, establish and meet deadlines, and respond to a changing environment.
Strong understanding of safety regulations and compliance requirements.
Individual must be results and detail oriented.
