Sabathani Community Center (SCC) is a 58-year-old African American institution and nonprofit serving a multi-cultural community of 50,000 community members in South Minneapolis. SCC was founded in 1966 by a handful of concerned community members seeking to address social and economic disparities in underserved communities in the areas of youth programming, housing, health and education. Wages & Benefits
$70,000 - $90,000 annual salary range; generous paid time off (PTO), plus 11 paid holidays and two floating holidays; competitive health, dental, and vision insurance; Health Savings Account (HSA), and options for Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). There is employer paid basic life insurance with the option for additional coverage paid by the employee. The employer pays for Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) and short- and long-term disability insurance. SCC sponsors a retirement plan with 4% employer match and immediate vesting.
A Typical Day in the Life…
A typical day as Sabathani’s Director of Supportive Services provides an opportunity to synchronize Supportive Service programming to Sabathani’s three-year strategic plan and provide strong leadership in accordance with the organization’s goals, and will include the following:
Providing overall departmental leadership and management for Supportive Services and building effective stakeholder relationships, including with the community, funders, volunteers, elected officials, etc.
Leading the strategic direction and developing new opportunities for Supportive Services.
Developing, managing, and monitoring the Supportive Services operating budget to meet or exceed budget targets.
Evaluating current Supportive Services activities for effectiveness, market need, growth potential, quality of service, and financial viability.
Recruiting, retaining, and motivating competent and committed staff to meet participant needs and achieve SCC’s mission, while championing and implementing the three-year strategic plan.
Building and strengthening partnerships to enhance Sabathani’s impact on youth, employment, violence prevention, and family and community engagement outcomes.
Leading community advisory groups to shape program design and impact meaningfully.
Developing and nurturing relationships with local businesses, government agencies, field experts, and other key stakeholders to advance Sabathani’s mission.
Representing and communicating compellingly the work and value of Sabathani externally.
Maintaining knowledge of community trends to keep programming current and responsive.
Building relationships with a wide range of individuals and organizations across sectors.
Leading opportunities to bridge and shape disparity reduction narratives with a focus on broader systemic impacts and solutions.
Partnering with various stakeholders to develop and execute project evaluations toward stated outcomes.
Ensuring regular communication of progress, including successes, effective strategies, short-term measures and outcomes, and ongoing improvements and learning.
Who You Are
You have an associate, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in human services/social services, or demonstrably equivalent knowledge gained through alternative courses of study and life experience.
You have a minimum of seven years of work experience in nonprofit leadership.
You have experience working in diverse communities (preferred).
You can effectively anticipate and balance the needs of multiple stakeholders.
You effectively build formal and informal relationship networks inside and outside the organization.
You’re skilled in developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences. You express ideas and information accessibly and concisely in written and verbal communication.
You initiate, build, and advance partnerships to drive a collaborative vision and meet shared objectives.
You strive to create new and better ways for the organization to be successful.
