An Associate’s degree in Fire Science, Education or other related field may be used as an alternative for the years of required experience.Fire Inspector Certification under the provisions of Chapter 633.081 (2), Florida Statutes.Preference:Three (3) years of experience supervising subordinate employees

five (5) years’ experience in the application and enforcement of fire, building or life safety codes.This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.This position will be filled at an annual salary of $75,000.00.Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.All State applications must be completed in its entirety to be considered for this position.Responses to qualifying questions must be clearly supported by the state application and any omission, falsification, or misrepresentation in the answering of the qualifying questions will be cause for immediate elimination from the selection process.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:Supervise the six (6) Inspection Regions and FPS Supervisors and staff.Plans, organizes, and directs the inspection of all properties as required by Chapter 633, Florida Statutes. Provides direct and overall planning, direction and supervision of all employees and activities of the Inspection Section including formulation and administration of policies and procedures.Directs field personnel to ensure compliance with the Division’s policies, the use of consistent technical language in property prepared reports, the uniform application of the appropriate codes and standards, and to coordinate the scheduling of inspection across regional boundaries to meet statutory requirements. Prepares correspondence for inquiries on matters relating to the duties and activities of the Section.Disseminates policy and other communications from the Bureau Chief to personnel assigned to the Inspection Section. Schedules visits to field offices to properly supervise the activities of the personnel assigned, respond to inquiries regarding statutes, rules and codes from field personnel, city and county officials, authorities having jurisdiction and other State and Federal agencies. Assist in the drafting of rules and statutory changes.Design, coordinate, and implement training programs for all Bureau Staff to improve and enhance Bureau operations.As an assigned Team Leader, coordinates the Division’s responsibilities in Emergency Management, to include the staffing and operation of the State Emergency Operations Center for Emergency Support Functions 4 and 9. During activation, advises the Division Director and Senior Management of the Department of Financial Services on all emergency operations associated with the Department.In the absence of the Bureau Chief, may be assigned to manage some or all of the duties and responsibilities of the Bureau.Performs related work as necessary.If you are a retiree of the Florida Retirement System (FRS), please check with the FRS on how your current benefits will be affected if you are re-employed with the State of Florida.
