Job SummaryBuilding Services is part of the Division of Administrative Operations, tasked with providing safe, reliable, and transformative spaces to our campus customers. Building Services is responsible for campus custodial services, ensuring campus facilities are healthy and clean. The director provides leadership in safely meeting mission objectives, delivering desired service levels at the lowest possible cost. This position translates higher-level goals into day-to-day custodial operations to ensure the department contributes positively to meeting those goals.

Building Services provides custodial services in both academic and residential spaces on Purdue's West Lafayette campus; over 9,000,000 cleanable sq. ft. Services are provided at all hours, including weekends. In addition to daily cleaning operations, Building Services acts as a quick reaction force to major events on campus, including large leaks and snow removal for building entryways. The director is responsible for the safety of approximately 550 departmental staff and manages their professional and career development, ensuring a positive service relationship with campus customers including faculty, staff, and students.

This is an exciting opportunity to run a large department and a 24/7 operation. Most of what our department does is day-to-day operations: stocking restrooms, removing trash, cleaning. You will have the opportunity to continue to optimize and modernize the department to improve efficiencies and customer service to campus.

What We're Looking For:Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s Degree

Eight (8) years of management experience

In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience

Skills Needed:

Strong written and verbal communication skills for writing comprehensive reports, planning projects, and maintaining documentation

Demonstrated strength in budget management and proven leadership ability for coordination of people and resources

Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with diverse workgroups on campus

Adaptability and resourcefulness

Analytical and reasoning skills for evaluation processes, judgment, and independent action

Excellent organizational and change management skills

Strong computer skills in word processing, email, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint

Preferred:

Experience in management of large departments with multiple layers, financial planning and budget projecting, establishing and documenting policies, procedures, and goals, and strong HR management experience

Knowledge of custodial operations
