Position Summary:

The Sr. HR Generalist is responsible for all Human Resources functions, including but not limited to compliance, recruitment, hiring, onboarding, off-boarding, employee relations, compensation, leaves of absence, and employee benefits of all employee groups within the ROE. The person in this position is responsible for retention, satisfaction, and productivity to ensure that the department runs efficiently and has high levels of internal and external customer service.

Education and/or Experience and Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, business management, or other relevant field (preferred)Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the role of Human Resources Specialist, Generalist, or CoordinatorExperience working in an education or government setting (preferred).Familiarity with HR processes and programs as well as employment laws.Ability to present and produce documents at a high level of sophisticationAbility to make rational decisions, problem solve, and effectuate changeAbility to establish and maintain a collegial relationship with all departmentsMust possess knowledge of the state and federal laws related to human resourcesExperience using Google Suite is preferred.An equivalent combination of training and experience may be used to meet the qualifications requirements.Essential Functions

Oversees and ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal laws pertaining to Human Resource ManagementInitiates and/or responds to inquiries concerning human resources matters such as leaves of absence, benefits, policies, etc.Develops training, communications, presentations, and/or information programs for all employee groups.Interprets policies and procedures in responding to staff and administrator inquiries.Participates in projects to develop and implement human resources policies, programs, or process changes.Works with administrative staff to improve and troubleshoot process workflows and operational issues.Manages employee relations issues such as conflicts between employees, performance issues, policy violations, progressive discipline, and similar issues.Partners with County HR to respond to inquiries related to benefits and assists new hires in completing benefits paperwork.Ensures accuracy and timeliness of the flow of information between the Business Office and Human Resources department pertaining to payroll and time off.Maintains all staff personnel records and sets up files for new hires.Assists in maintaining employee attendance records along with payroll specialist.Update salary increase calculations, letters, and benefits.Modify salary approval worksheets for necessary changes.Completes new hire onboarding and employee off-boarding processesPosts job vacancies as needed, reviews resumes, interviews applicants, and recommends hiring decisions to administration. Extends offers to new hires and creates offer letters or employment contracts.Respond to verifications of employment and Faith's law inquiries.Assist in maintaining and updating salaries, positions, start dates, end dates, and classified, and certified staff in the Employee Information System (EIS) during the fall and spring terms.Assists payroll specialist as the TRS /IMRF system administrator.Partner with DuPage County HR to carry out organization-wide initiatives, such as the implementation of new software systems.Participate in leadership team meetings and offer insight into best practices related to the human resources function.Participates in professional organizations and activities to further develop and broaden their Human Resources Management expertise.Stays current with new and updated employment laws, acts, and trends.Maintains the Regional Office of Education handbook and responds to HR-related inquiries regarding employee handbook, benefits, and retirement withholding. Creates and/or updates policies as needed.Manage leaves of absence processes such as FMLA, disability leave, and worker's compensation cases.Assist in the development of reports and confidential data collection as needed.Assists with writing and maintaining job descriptions.Complete special projects and perform related job duties as assigned by supervisor or other leadership team members.Department Culture

Education/Preparation

• The employee shall possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree. Experience in school human resources is preferred but not required.

• The employee must have the ability to interpret instructions provided through written and oral form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to use their hands to handle or feel instructional materials. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• The employee shall possess personal computing skills with the following types of software; web browsers, word processing, spreadsheet, and database systems. The employee shall use DROE-approved resources, technology, and assistive technology. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in an office and school setting.
