The Assistant Principal supports and assists the principal in providing leadership, direction and guidance to a school that is focused on student learning and achievement. As directed, he/she helps to oversee the entire operation of the school setting including, students, staff, facilities, etc. The Assistant Principal also assists the principal in promoting the academic growth and physical well-being of each student and promoting the professional and personal growth of all personnel.

Qualifications

:

Master's Degree in Educational Administration or Curriculum and InstructionValid Arizona Administrative Certificate or Arizona Principal's Certificate or evidence of eligibility to be certified by the Arizona Department of Education before the start of the school yearValid Arizona Teaching CertificateArizona Structured English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement; or 45 SEI hours (or able to obtain within first year of school employment in Arizona); or Bilingual Endorsement; or English as a Second Language (ESL) Endorsement is requiredThree (3) years successful teaching experienceValid Fingerprint Clearance CardStrong knowledge of the English language including reading, writing and oral communication with extensive skills in spelling, punctuation and grammarKnowledge of Spanish including reading, writing and oral communication is desiredStrong leadership and implementation skillsStrong problem solving and decision-making skillsPrioritize work, take initiative, adhere to time restraints and attend to multiple tasks on a variety of issuesMust be capable of developing effective instructional programsMust have experience in school leadership which may include supervision/management or team workMust have effective and appropriate public speaking skillsStrong communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with students, parents and staffMust be an energetic, highly ethical and possess good emotional and physical healthAdministrative experience is preferredKnowledge of

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

:

Assist the principal in overseeing the entire operation of the school setting including, students, staff, facilities, etc. as directedAssist with maintaining a positive environment that develops social, emotional, and cognitive skills; as well as promotes and supports cooperation and learningSet high expectations for students and all school personnelMaintain effective working relationships with school district personnel to support the efforts of the district as well as the local schoolAssist with creating and maintaining a climate of collaborative planning and decision makingAssist with analyzing test data and set goals regarding student achievementAssist with designing and implementing programs that promote and motivate individual student and group excellenceCollaborate with the special education teachers/department regarding student growth and attend IEP Meetings, parent meetings, psychological evaluation meetings, etcAttend IEP Meetings, parent meetings, psychological evaluation meetings, etcAssist with administering state achievement testsProvide for a safe learning environment through appropriate student discipline policiesAssist with supervision and enforcement of rules and procedures for student discipline and classroom managementAssist the staff to continually maintain good student behavior and safety in the classroom, halls, cafeteria, gymnasium, playground and on field tripsMaintain high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary according due process to the rights of studentsDiscuss and resolve individual student problemsMaintain an accurate and current student log or spreadsheet regarding discipline referrals, disciplinary action(s) taken, interventions, etc.Support and assist in the implementation of building administrator directivesAssist with developing an annual budget and manage finances including maintenance and operations, grants, capital, student organization and all program fundsAssist with monitoring transportation services provided to studentsMaintain an active and positive relationship with students and parentsAttend special events held to recognize student achievementSupport and attend extracurricular activitiesAssist with recruiting, interviewing and hiring of the professional staff, paraprofessionals and support personnelAssist the principal in ensuring that all certified and non-certified educational staff is "highly qualified" according to State regulations and lawAssist the principal in ensuring that all certified staff has appropriate SEI certification according to State regulations and lawAssist with orienting newly assigned staff members and continually assist in their professional and personal developmentMake daily classroom visitsAssist with providing direction on curriculum and instructionUse and model the use of technology as a teaching tool and accurate record keepingAssist the staff with Parent/Teacher ConferencesAssist the staff in the administering of state achievement tests and ELL testingAssist with the Evaluate process of personnel as assigned by the principalof a teacher/school personnel whose work is unsatisfactory according to established proceduresAssist with facilitating staff meetingsAssist with composing and/or typing letters, bulletins, memos, handbooks, newsletters, etc.Assist with establishing and maintaining positive relationships between the school and the community to encourage support of the school objectives, goals and programs, interpret procedures and policies and to encourage community participation in school lifeAttend the school site-based councilAttend the school safety committeeAssist with facilitating and supervising on-going emergency training as well as conducting student and staff emergency crisis drillsAssist with supervising school fire drillsAttend School Board Meetings as directedParticipate in district sponsored professional development workshops/inservices, attend professional meetings, read professional journals and publications, etc. for continued professional developmentMaintain strict confidentiality and use appropriate discretion when working with all district personnel and student and family records and/or informationAdhere and support all Governing School Board policies and/or regulations, the assigned school rules, Arizona Revised Statutes and federal regulations pertaining to educationPerform all other duties as assigned by the Governing School Board, the Principal or his/her designeeLength of Employment
