Description
The City of Norfolk's Maritime Center is seeking an Event Support Crew Member II to support the overall function of Cruise and Nauticus operations. This position cleans the interior of facilities, performs light event facility maintenance, and maintains the interior of event facilities. Event Support Crew Members specialize in the care and upkeep of floors, glass partitions and carpet., while maintaining related equipment within facilities.
Nauticus is a maritime discovery center located along the waterfront in downtown, Norfolk offering a unique form of experiential learning for all ages. Through interactive exhibits and STEM to STERN programming, Nauticus uses the museum, Battleship
Wisconsin , sailing center, and Schooner Virginia to tell the story of the maritime environment, industry, and the military.
Department Starting Hiring Salary Range: $40,960 - $47,104
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
+ Supports the overall function of Cruise and Nauticus operations.
+ Cleans the interior of facilities.
+ Performs light event facility maintenance. Maintains the interior of event facilities.
+ Specializes in the care and upkeep of floors, glass partitions and carpet.
+ Maintains related equipment within facilities.
+ Supports increase activity for Cruise Operations and Facility needs in other areas as needed.
+ Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials and all members of the general public.
+ Ability to stand, for extended periods of time, lift from ground to above shoulder, climb, bend stoop, sit, push, pull and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
+ Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience
Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.
One year of special events experience required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
One years of Facilities, Maintenance or related experience preferred.

Friday - Tuesday, 6:30 am - 3:00 pm
Signing Bonus:
This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus for applications received on or after February 22, 2022. The signing bonus will be paid in two (2) increments: $2,500 upon completion of 60 days of employment, and $2,500 upon completion of your probationary period. To receive the signing bonus, you must be an active employee in good standing.

Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees
may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.

Special project/grant employees
are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.

Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit.
This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit.
This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

The Tuition Assistance Program
