The SARA, Inc. High Power Electromagnetics Division (HPEM) is looking for a Production Manufacturing Engineer to support the implementation of engineering drawings into a production environment. This candidate will work alongside and provide design-for-manufacturing feedback to DoD, DoE, and internal SARA Design Engineers in Colorado Springs, CO. An ideal candidate will be able to interpret engineering design intent and provide manufacturing capabilities to support or refine the product design, tolerances, and quality. Along with providing design-for-manufacturing feedback as a Production Manufacturing Engineer the candidate will work closely with the manufacturing team(s) to refine assembly line layout for efficient and safe flow of product, design and fabricate assembly aids that will increase productivity, increase quality of product through fabrication consistency, and continue to make the environment safe and enjoyable to work in.
Core Responsibilities:
- Ability to work in a rapid-prototyping environment with agility and openness to change direction
- Must be able to fabricate and concept prototypes quickly using hand tools, 3D printing, and other mockup techniques
- Must have in-depth understanding of engineering drawings, tolerance requirements, GD&T, and have ability to provide productive manufacturing feedback to meet customer needs and expectations
- Must have ability to work independently to implement moderate to advanced design challenges into a consistently produced product
- Interact with all levels of engineering staff and outside vendors
- Must have knowledge and understanding of manufacturing materials and their inherent properties
- In-depth understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes (including, but not limited to: milling, lathe, waterjet, welding, 3D printing, mechanical, and electrical assembly)
- Researching and analyzing customer design proposals, specifications, and drawings to evaluate against feasibility, cost, and/or manufacturing capabilities
- Has experience working in a Lean Manufacturing environment and has experience leading Design for Manufacturing (DFM) feedback to design engineering team
- Must have capability to research and expand SARA’s current manufacturing and assembly capabilities based on customer needs and requirements
- Work closely with technical documentation team to create assembly instructions, document use of assembly aid fixtures and manufacturing processes
- Assures product and process quality by designing test methods; testing finished product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes
Requirements:
- BS or MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering
- 3-5+ years of demonstrated experience in a design for manufacturing environment
- Experience in manufacturing environment; familiar with tools and processes that are typically used, their advantages and shortcomings
- Moderate to High skill level in SolidWorks 3D modeling
- Proven time management skills; able to thrive in deadline-driven environment juggling multiple priorities and projects
- Upbeat, positive, high energy with a “can do” attitude; reacts well under pressure
- Willingness to work as part of a team and initiate communication
- Ability to obtain and maintain TS security clearance
- US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
- May require moderate physical effort involving standing, sitting, and use of hands while performing duties. Carrying or lifting up to 50 pounds
- Working environment is indoor, moderately quiet, reasonably clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated, moderate physical hazards may exist
Preferred Qualifications:
- Capable of teaching and coaching technicians on assembly processes and use of assembly aids (fixtures and tooling)
- Experience manufacturing High Voltage Systems is a plus
- Active TS security clearance

Pay Range
Salary at SARA is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of SARA’s total compensation package for employees. Positions are on-site, unless indicated otherwise.
