Human Resources Generalist . This is a key Human Resources position which will provide strategic HR support to multiple retail automotive operations in our California markets .
While working closely with the field operations team, to include the dealership general managers and department managers, this position will report directly to the Market HR Manager and be based at one of our locations in Anaheim or Sacremento, CA.
We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Human Resources Generalist. The HR Generalist will be responsible for providing support in various HR functions including, employee relations, training and development, benefits administration, and performance management. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of HR best practices and California’s HR laws, excellent communication skills, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.

Group 1 owns and operates over 200 automotive dealerships in the United States and United Kingdom. Through its dealerships, the company sells new and used cars and light trucks; arranges related vehicle financing; sells service contracts; provides automotive maintenance and repair services; and sells vehicle parts.
Responsibilities:
Partner with HR Manager to drive talent processes in local market, such as: Performance Management, Talent Reviews, Succession Planning, and Development Planning
Monitor and make recommendations to improve work culture, increase engagement, productivity, and retention.
Keep up to date on industry trends and changing state and local employment laws in respective market(s) and advise stakeholders.
Conduct workplace investigations.
Collaborate with Corporate HR staff on matters related to benefits, employee communications, internal and external compliance, and DEI initiatives.
Serve as HR advisor for leaders in the areas of performance management, compensation, retention, employee development, positive employee relations practices, policy interpretation and implementation, and conflict resolution.
Manage onboarding and offboarding of employees, review exit interview data and provide recommendations on organizational improvements.
Create, interpret, communicate and enforce company policies and procedures.
Manage FMLA, ADA Accommodation, and other protected leave requests in compliance with federal and local regulations, including monitoring, tracking and documenting interactive communication with employees and management.
Serve as liaison between employees, Safety Manager and Corporate Risk department regarding workers compensation incidents and injuries.
Maintain confidentiality of company and employee information.
Answer general employee inquiries, including login issues, personal information changes, and assisting with pay questions.
May be required to perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field preferred.
SHRM or HCRI certifications preferred, PHR-CA or SPHR-CA certification is a plus.
Minimum 3 years of HR Generalist experience with large California-based employer.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal clients.
Experience in responding to complex inquiries or complaints from customers, employees, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to write effectively and work proficiently within MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Travel throughout the market for visits to locations.
Possess a high degree of emotional intelligence and the ability to create meaningful relationships and successfully navigate diverse stakeholder groups.
Maintain professional demeanor and appearance.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
Strong understanding of HR laws and regulations.
