Job Purpose/Summary
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with senior management in supporting the organization. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations, benefits management, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, and employment law compliance. They help recruit employees, screen job candidates, assist with new hire orientation, create job descriptions, schedule interviews, and perform various administrative tasks. They maintain employment records, employee data, contracts and databases, answer employee questions, and help them understand company policies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Recruitment and Staffing:
Develop and update job descriptions and job specifications.
Prepare recruitment materials and post jobs to appropriate job boards.
Source and recruit candidates by using databases, social media, etc.
Screen candidates' resumes and job applications.
Schedule interviews
Onboard new employees to become fully integrated.
Employee Relations:
Serve as a point of contact for employees’ queries on HR-related topics.
Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues.
Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Performance Management:
Assist in the implementation of performance management and improvement systems.
Monitor performance evaluations and ensure they are completed in a timely manner.
Support employees and managers with performance management and goal setting.
Compensation and Benefits:
Administer various employee benefits programs, such as group insurance, long-term disability, and health benefits.
Assist in the development of benefit orientations and other benefit training.
Provide guidance and assistance to employees regarding benefits claims and policy.
Training and Development:
Identify training needs for teams and individuals.
Evaluate and monitor training programs to ensure success.
Maintain employee training records.
Compliance and Reporting:
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.
Prepare and maintain reports that are necessary to carry out the functions of the department.
Prepare periodic reports for management, as necessary or requested.
HR Policies and Procedures:
Assist in developing, implementing, and administering HR policies and procedures.
Communicate and interpret HR policies and procedures to employees.
Assist in updating and maintaining the employee handbook.
Other Duties:
Other duties as assigned or required to fulfill the mission of Sacred Path.
Experience & Qualifications
A minimum of 3 years of HR experience.
Proven experience as an HR Generalist.
Understanding of general human resources policies and procedures.
Good knowledge of employment/labor laws.
Aptitude in problem-solving.
Desire to work as a team with a results-driven approach.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required.
License/Certifications
None required
Customer Service
Excellent communication and people skills.
Deliver exceptional service to employees, addressing inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
Resolve issues and escalate matters as necessary.
Communication/Interpersonal Skills
Interact with people in a professional and respectful manner, both verbally and in writing.
Some key skills in this area include active listening, clear verbal/written communication, empathy, cultural humility, conflict resolution, problem-solving, collaboration and adhering to ethical standards such as confidentiality.
Technology Skills
Must be able to use a computer or laptop to complete needed tasks for the job.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace
Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, ensuring data accuracy, security, and adherence to privacy regulations to safeguard sensitive information.
Position Qualification Preferences
Additional HR Training (SHRM Certified Professional or SHRM Senior Certified Professional) preferred.
Experience working with the American Indian/Alaska Native community.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are typical of those an employee will encounter while performing the primary functions of this job. Normal office conditions exist, and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described are typical of those required by an employee to perform the primary functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk frequently, sit, bend, twist, talk, and hear. There are prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with vendors, and staff.
Mental Demands
There are various deadlines associated with this position. The employee must also multi-task and interact with many people on a variety of issues that are, at times, very complicated.

Maintain annual negative TB test results on file
Pass a post-offer drug test
Possess and maintain a reliable vehicle with valid CA driver’s license and active auto insurance
Available to work evenings and weekends, as needed
Willing to travel, as needed (travel time could be around 10%)
