Description

I) Job Purpose

The Registered Nurse Crisis coordinates and delivers healthcare services to individuals in Behavioral Health sites and the community. Utilizing the nursing process, the RN conducts assessments, plans, implements interventions, provides education, evaluates outcomes, and offers consultation. The RN functions as a valuable member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.

II) Essential Functions

A) Conduct nursing assessments and interventions across Crisis Services Department programs to assess patient's behavioral and physical health needs.

B) Communicate effectively with team members, providing concise updates on pertinent patient information.

C) Make medication decisions for program patients and provide oversight/guidance to unlicensed staff regarding medication competency and related tasks.

D) Complete all clinical documentation in the electronic health record within specified time constraints.

E) Provide leadership and act as a subject matter expert for medical concerns in any Crisis Services Department program.

F) Coordinate responsibilities with available MA/LVN to optimize program efficiency and enable RNs to work to the full extent of their licensure.

G) Serve as a liaison between the clinical team and patients, demonstrating exceptional customer service, bedside manner, and comprehensive education and implementation of services.

H) Assess ongoing patient needs, determine appropriate services, and track progress towards recovery goals.

I) Adhere to applicable procedures, guidelines, and the Nurse Practice Act for all written and verbal medical orders.

J) Be available and capable of serving at any program within the Crisis Services Department.

I) Strong ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and healthcare team.

J) Independent work capabilities with limited supervision, flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays.

K) Attendance of necessary meetings at designated intervals.

L) Physical stamina to stand for long periods, maintain emotional/physical health for job demands.

M) Proficiency in reading and interpreting clinical documentation, policies, procedures.

N) Compliance with agency-required trainings, refresher courses.

O) Physical strength to lift patients, move heavy equipment (up to approximately 250 lbs), transport patients in wheelchairs, stretchers.

P) Knowledge and adherence to relevant standards, regulations, guidelines

IV) Internal & External Customer Service

A) This role involves frequent communication with various individuals, including persons served, family members, internal and external staff, service providers, practitioners, and community partners. Effective written and verbal skills are essential, including timely responses to phone calls and emails as per program requirements. Professional conduct is expected in all interactions.

V) Travel

A) Adhere to MHMR Mileage and Travel reimbursement policy and any other aspect regarding travel.

VI) Equipment Used

A) Utilized as required for position.

VII) Minimum Qualifications

A) Minimum Education: Associate Degree

B) Defined Education: RN Program

C) Preferences: Bilingual, One (1) year experience in behavioral health, specifically RN experience in the field of psychiatric/mental health or substance use disorder.

D) Substitutions: None

F) Defined Experience: None

G) License/Certifications: Valid Texas Driver's License, Current RN Licensure, CPR Certification

H) Special Courses: None

I) Supervisory Experience: None

VIII) Agency Requirements

A) All staff are required to participate in agency Emergency Preparedness and Environmental Safety programs and may be assigned by their department as a key/essential staff level function during critical events or for the purpose of sustaining business continuity.

B) This position may require temporary or permanent re-assignment to any MHMR Tarrant facility as determined by program needs and/or the Division/Director.

C) Assigned work hours may change as the needs of the agency change.

D) The Functional Title of this position may change as the needs of the agency change.

E) All work will be completed within the scheduled work hours. All non-exempt (hourly) employees are expected to clock in and clock out for each work shift, no work should be done off the clock.

F) MHMR reserves the right to change, add to or eliminate positions as it deems appropriate.

G) Employment is at will, as well as agency needs may change.

H) Agency dress code is to be followed at all times.

I) Physical on-site presence, including regular attendance and punctuality, is an essential function of this position. Any changes or adjustments to your assigned work schedule or shift hours must be approved by your supervisor in advance.
