The Comprehensive Cancer Program is a Public Health Program within the Population and Community Health Bureau (PCHB) of the NMDOH. The mission of the PCHB is to partner with populations, communities, organizations, and systems to create health equity where New Mexicans live, learn, work and play. The PCHB values are centered on positive relationships, accountability, respect and excellence. The Comprehensive Cancer Program works collaboratively to reduce the burden of cancer in NM.
Why does the job exist?
This position collaborates with key stakeholders to identify and implement strategies to reduce the burden of cancer in New Mexico. The position supports the planning, implementation, and evaluation of cancer prevention and control initiatives that use a variety of evidence-based approaches, including those that impact cancer risk reduction; appropriate cancer screening; the health and well-being of cancer survivors; health equity; and policy, systems, and the built environment.
How does it get done?
The person in this position collaborates with key stakeholders to identify and implement initiatives to reduce the burden of cancer in New Mexico. This position supports the planning, implementation, and evaluation of cancer prevention and control initiatives using a variety of evidence-based policy, systems, and environmental approaches including those that impact health equity. The person in this position facilitates and supports partnership development and provides tailored technical assistance to program contractors and community partners including the New Mexico Cancer Council to ensure grant requirements are met.Specific tasks include:- Assisting the New Mexico Cancer Council with administrative tasks including meeting minutes and communications, and supporting special projects.- Using strong technical writing and analytical skills for grant reporting, evaluation, and communication.- Developing and monitoring contracts for the Comprehensive Cancer Program with partners in community education and cancer support, among other activities.- Developing and/or revising educational materials such as brochures and presentations for audiences with different levels of health literacy.- Conducting educational presentations on cancer prevention and control topics for priority populations.- Providing technical assistance to contractors and other partners.- Providing leadership, support, coordination, and collaboration to Population and Community Health Bureau processes and activities.

The people of New Mexico, including the general public at risk for developing certain cancers, cancer survivors and caregivers, public health professionals, and those that support cancer control and prevention activities. Key program partners include member organizations of the New Mexico Cancer Council working to reduce the burden of cancer in New Mexico, with an emphasis on working to achieve health equity.
Ideal Candidate
- Experience in and knowledge of public health principles and approaches, in particular as they relate to cancer prevention and control- Community and coalition partnership development and sustainability, including leadership within partnerships- Outstanding communication and writing skills- Experience coordinating and collaborating with diverse groups of stakeholders on project planning, implementation, and evaluation- Experience in working to achieve health equity
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Public Health or Education and two (2) years of experience in a health related field. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Ability to meet numerous deadlines.
