Position Overview
General Technician I:This position will perform general building maintenance tasks on a regular and continuing basis. It will provide general support for a variety of construction, trades, landscaping, exterior service and maintenance areas to repair and maintain university facilities and grounds. Job duties will vary widely depending on the work and projects assigned.
Duties may include:Utilize basic tools and equipmentRepair and maintain basic machinery, equipment and facility propertyAssist with routine facility inspections and monitor cleanlinessAssist with inventory and distribution of deliveriesManually move and transfer itemsParticipate in snow removalOther duties as assignedGeneral Technician II:This position independently performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair duties that vary widely depending on the work and projects assigned. It is responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing university equipment and facilities. The position will provide support for a variety of construction, trade and maintenance groups to meet university needs.
Duties may include:

Required Experience
General Technician I:
Working in a team to accomplish goalsGeneral Technician II:
Three years performing semi-skilled maintenance tasksRequired Education
General Technician I and II:
High School Diploma or equivalentRequired Other
General Technician I and II:
Possess a valid driver's license and the ability to meet university requirements for driving university-owned vehiclesBe at least 18 years of ageAdditional Preferred
General Technician I:
Expressed interest in learning and acquiring skills related to building maintenanceExperience:
Working in construction or building maintenanceUsing power tools and equipment
General Technician II:
Post-secondary education and/or license in one or more of the following areas: plumbing, electrical or HVACExperience
With heating and cooling system maintenance and repairsWith basic components and functions of electrical systems, plumbing systems, heating ventilation systems, roofing systems, security lock systems and mechanical systems in residential type dwellingsInstalling carpet, sheet vinyl, luxury vinyl plank and/or ceramic tile
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
General Technician I and II:Must be able to:
Bend, stoop and work in awkward positions for several hours at a timeClimb and work from ladders, scaffolding and scissor liftsCarry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 poundsStand and walk continuously throughout the workdayWork in inclement weather conditions
