Position Description & Details

Bismarck State College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Custodian. This role is essential in ensuring the cleanliness and health of our campus community. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, a strong work ethic, and commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy educational environment.

Responsibilities Include:Cleans, sweeps, scrubs, and mops floors, stairways, halls, and other surfaces. Renovates and renews floor finishes.Washes windows, walls, and woodwork.Cleans and services lavatories and restrooms; sanitizes and polishes fixtures.Moves furniture, supplies, and equipment.Cleans and dusts furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, and related furnishings; cleans carpets with vacuum cleaners and/or shampooer.Sweeps and cleans walkways, shovels snow from sidewalks and entryways, and keeps outside premises in an orderly condition.Maintains flowerpots and rock areas.Locks and unlocks doors, checks for lights left on, opens windows in rooms, and provides security when buildings are not occupied.Collects and disposes of wastepaper and other waste materials.Performs minor maintenance and repairs to buildings and equipment.Maintains simple records of cleaning activities.Sets up meeting rooms and equipment for in-house/outside groups.Supports innovation, creativity, and ideas to improve processes, functions, etc. in the department and as a whole for the college.Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Other Requirements:Hours and building assignments will be based on the needs of the department and the college. Assignments and hours can be adjusted as needed. Weekend work may be necessary.Required to wear uniforms provided by the College while on duty.

HAZARDOUS WORKING CONDITIONS:Work may include lifting 50 pounds or more and exposure to hazards, which could result in physical injury.Must observe established safety practices and procedures in working with chemicals, materials, and equipment.

Minimum Requirements

Requires a high school diploma or GED.Requires knowledge of the materials, equipment, and methods used in the cleaning and upkeep of buildings.Ability to perform cleaning work including the operation of extractors, vacuums, and other custodial equipment.Basic computer software skills - Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, etc., Outlook E-mail and Calendar.Ability to follow communicated instructions and to work independently after instructions.Ability to work well with co-workers.Must have a current valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

One year of custodial experience.
