Job Description
The Cost Accountant will be responsible for performing cost analyses, maintaining accurate cost accounting records, and ensuring effective cost control measures are in place. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills and a thorough understanding of cost accounting principles.
Duties & Responsibilities
Job duties to include but are not limited to: Program Finance Reporting: • Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs. • Provide detailed reports on cost variances and analyze reasons for deviations. • Assist management in making cost-related decisions by providing accurate and timely financial data. Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts related to programs. • Monitor budget performance and recommend corrective actions to address variances. • Support the development of cost control strategies and initiatives. • Processing of journal entries and adjustments in relation to accounts included above, which will also require working with the Financial Services Department. • Analyze and report on cost trends and potential impact on profitability. Factory Cost Reporting: • Analyze, evaluate and report monthly production variances against standards for all plant output. • Report weekly / monthly factory rework activity against plan in accordance with Cost of Poor Quality objectives. • Report weekly / monthly material scrap activity against plan in accordance with Cost of Poor Quality objectives. • Monitor, evaluate and report all sub-contracting costs. • evaluate and report freight costs against plan. • Supporting internal controls framework and maintaining internal control documentation in relation to the general ledger • Other tasks as assigned
The Individual
Education Requirements Required/Preferred Education Level Additional Qualifications Required Education Added qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Years of Experience: • 3-5 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment Recommended Minimum Comments Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • ERP experience, SAP preferred • Intermediate or above User of Excel and MS Office programs • Strong analytical skills, motivated, able to meet required deadlines, and detail-oriented • The ability to communicate across all levels of the organization
