Metro Transit has an exciting special duty opportunity for a Special Project Manager 1 within the Mobility Division. This position will be responsible for managing King County Metro's preparation for upcoming major events and disruptions. The work will include leading and managing Metro's preparation for 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup and associated events; upcoming construction disruptions related to I-5 construction; and other major events and emerging disruptions.
This position will coordinate and lead preparation for upcoming major events including development of service and operating plans, fare and incentive programs, communications strategies, workforce needs, safety and security needs, and more. The person in this role will work with subject matter experts across Metro to focus on delivering safe, clean, and reliable transit that meets customer needs.
This position will work represent Metro in coordination with other agencies such as Sound Transit, the City of Seattle, the Washington State Department of Transportation, the Seattle Local Organizing Committee; and more.
This position will report to the Mobility Division Director's office. This recruitment process will be used to fill one immediate special duty position. The initial term of the special duty assignment will be 12 months, with potential for extension.
Job Duties

As a Special Projects Manager, you will:
Develop strategies and identify business needs for King County Metro to respond to upcoming events and disruptions.Managing the customer experience and service deployment departmental coordination for planning and preparation activities for major special eventsCollaborate with a matrixed team across Metro divisions to identify needs, priorities, and resources to deliver excellent service and customer experience before, during, and after major events and disruptions.Establish and facilitate working groups to identify and prioritize work, assess risks, elevate and resolve issues.Develop proposed budget and resource needs to support Metro customers and workforce during major events.Prepare and give presentations to senior Metro and County leadership, and external parties.Advise Metro leadership on key issues and challenges related to upcoming events.Serve as the main contact person for coordination with Sound Transit, Seattle, and other organizations.

We are looking for candidates who meet the following Minimum Qualifications:
Combination of experience and education that provides the applicant with the skills, knowledge, and abilities required to perform the work.At least five years of work experience in public transportation.Skill in managing complex projects in a large organization with diverse operational needs.Experience in working with and negotiating with external agencies to accomplish tasks.Skill in problem-solving, conflict resolution, negotiating and decision-making.Ability to handle multiple competing priorities.Skill in managing the work of others.Experience in managing and prioritizing a diverse workload to accomplish tasks on defined timelines.Strong oral and written communications skills including the ability to tailor communications to from diverse backgrounds and roles.

Work Schedule This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore not eligible for overtime pay. The anticipated regular work schedule will be 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Alternative work schedules may be considered. Work outside of the normal workday is required periodically.
Work Location The primary location of the position is at the King Street Center offices, 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle, WA 98104. Temporary Telecommuting RequirementThe work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of teleworking and working in the office. Employees in this classification will work in the office approximately 1-2 days per week in the future. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities.
