Clinical Care Supervisor

to join our GI Diagnostics Lab in downtown Minneapolis.SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager or Director and in collaboration with others, the Clinical Care Supervisor may be responsible for the day-to-day unit operations, clinical care, and / or education processes for the unit/department. Duties may include staff supervision, patient flow, staff education, orientation and competency assessment, clinical care excellence, financial stewardship, performance improvement, coordination of patient care and safety, and serving in the Charge Nurse role.RESPONSIBILITIESGeneral:Supports strategies to achieve HHS nursing vision and execute Patient and Family Centered Care for every patient, every experience, and every timeProvides leadership for developing and implementing the unit / department annual plan including monitoring scorecard indicators and updating the Visual Management Board (VBM)Supports hospital and unit compliance with standards of care and regulatory requirementsDemonstrates knowledge of hospital and unit policies and procedures and participates in revising as assignedPromotes exceptional care and service through partnerships with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary teamUnderstands and implements provisions of labor contractsMaintains unit environment that is clean, safe, and healing for patientsLeads and participates in unit and organization-wide committees as assignedPerforms delegated duties as requiredOn-call duties as assigned and/or on a rotating basis will be on off-shifts, weekends, and holidaysFacilitates the initiation of, adoption of, and adaptation to change

Education:Coordinates and tracks unit based orientation, competency assessment, and staff development in collaboration with the Professional Practice, Development, and Research Department (PPDR)Articulates standards of professional nursing practice to staff through orientation, ongoing staff development, and staff coachingActs as a mentor to new staff to assist in development of critical thinking skills, organization skills, and decision makingLeads the preceptor program within the department and ensures competencies are complete, evidence-based, and up to date. Serves as a preceptor as neededSupports learning and professional development at HHS through participation in central orientation and education activitiesAssesses, plans, implements, and evaluates division wide and unit specific based orientation and education while incorporating adult learning principlesMaintains clinical competencies, documentation, and records of orientation and ongoing required educationConducts educational needs assessment and develops a plan to meet the ongoing needs of the staffCoordinates preceptor activitiesParticipates as a member of chair of organizational education and development initiatives, aimed at improving patient safety and excellence in nursing practice

Operational:Assists in managing unit operations to comply with financial targetsSupervises employees, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, and performance management as directed by the managerFunctions as the Nurse Manager, when the manager is not presentMonitors the quality and safety of patient care provided and addresses issues proactively

Clinical:Demonstrates leadership for monitoring and assuring safe, high quality patient careProvides leadership and takes an active role in infection prevention within the department and organizationAssists in coordinating patient care with other nursing services, health services, and community health care agencies in order to maximize patient flowServes as resource for unit staff to resolve clinical care issuesServes in the Charge Nurse roleSupports the integration of research and evidence based practice in the delivery of nursing care services

QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Qualifications:New HCMC employees hired as of 4-1-2009 as a Clinical Care Supervisor (CCS) or current employees promoting to CCS:Bachelor's degree in Nursing is requiredTwo (2) years clinical experience is required

Preferred Qualifications:Master's degreeLeadership and supervisory experience

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:Skilled in overseeing the efforts of individuals within the departmentAbility to effectively involve department staff in the application of quality measurement and improvement toolsSkilled in fostering a positive workplace culture and building inclusive workplace teamsDemonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies and systems and provide instruction on complex processesCapable of assisting managers with decisions and activitiesEffective use of all Windows-based applications such as Word, Excel and Power PointAbility to appropriately prioritize and carry out workAbility to comfortably and effectively facilitate meetings and feedback sessions

License/Certifications:Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Minnesota Board of Nursing
