This position requires compliance with ITAR regulations. Therefore, all employees working in this capacity must meet citizenship status and the employee must be a US Citizen or a US Permanent Resident.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Working in a team environment, assist in projects which include New Product Development, improvement of current products, and design modifications required in the development of specialty pumps. Prepare and revise Bills of Material, process new part requests and Engineering Change Notices. Provides support with general technical direction and minimum supervision.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Analyzes job assignments and determines needs in terms of time, design, and other resources required for the completion of assignments to meet project due dates.

• Make necessary design calculations under guidance using established engineering practices.

• Constantly seeks to improve design capabilities through study, reading, observation, and evaluation.

• Investigates, prepares and implements engineering change notices.

• Generate, structure, and document any changes for part numbers and Bill of Material numbers. Includes editing and checking of orders for proper application and construction.

• Enter and maintain coding and structure in JDE for all parts.

• Assign and maintain material codes, model numbers, and part number families.

• Assists manufacturing with development of patterns/tooling and related equipment needed for producing new products.

• Exercises constant creative thinking in design work and utilizes knowledge of basic engineering principles, equipment, or design practices and current manufacturing methods and procedures.

• Works directly with Project Engineers by assisting with ideas and converting ideas into workable units.

• Aids in selection, recommendation, and usage of materials and components.

• Analyzes field, lab, manufacturing, or quality reports recommending changes, redesign, or replacement to solve problems.

• Develops test plan for product development and design validation. Writes lab testing work orders, oversees lab testing and documents summary of testing results.

• Required to travel as work necessitates.

• Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following applicable procedures.

• Works frequently with customers, suppliers, Viking field personnel, and all internal Viking departments.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum two year degree in Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Industrial Design, Drafting, or related degree.

• Ability to read blueprints and general working knowledge of GD&T.

OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Personal characteristics should include technical ability, maturity, tact, and diplomacy.

• Good judgement, technical insight into problems, ability to handle ambiguity and effectiveness in completing job assignments are also required.

• Highly effective communication skills (written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal).

• Must be self-driven, with very little supervision.

• Works well in a team environment.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

• Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

• Must be proficient in 3D CAD Modeling and Drafting software (Solidworks, Solidworks PDM preferred)

WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to move within office and manufacturing complex, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions.

• Ability to communicate by speech and hearing via phone and in person.

• Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use.

• General manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

• Must have the ability to effectively communicate with customers, suppliers and all levels of corporate and company personnel.

• Requires frequent contact with Project Engineers, Project Managers, Technical Customer Service and Support Group, Product Engineering Lab personnel, Sales personnel, Marketing personnel, Supply Chain personnel and Manufacturing Engineering personnel.
