Airport Network Systems Engineer II

Position Title: Airport Network Systems Engineer II Job Description: We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Network Systems Engineer II to supervise the Salt Lake City Airport data and communications networks. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation, security, and progression of our network infrastructure. Oversees the daily operations of the Airports data and communications networks. The responsibilities include professional Network Systems Engineering tasks, such as analyzing local and wide area network systems, planning, designing, evaluating and selecting operating systems and protocol suites, and configuring communication media. About the Position: You'll also play a critical role in troubleshooting network security issues, supporting mission-critical services like Microsoft Exchange Email and VMware, and maintaining network security devices. Your expertise will be crucial in mentoring and training Network Systems Engineer I, Network Support Administrators, and Technical Systems Analysts. You will collaborate with various teams, including Software Engineering, Business Analysts, and Software Support, to implement and upgrade systems. Additionally, you will design and maintain software updates, implement wireless communications networks, and ensure the performance of network resources. Position Salary Range: $ 107,919.90 - $ 119,911 annually based on qualifications and experience. Manage network hardware and software in an enterprise environment. Working knowledge of HP/Aruba, Cisco, and Transition routers and switches. Perform software upgrades on network devices and help in replacing and installing hardware. Expertise in enterprise Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks, including Spanning-Tree, VLANs, Routing, and Routing Protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, etc. Supports SLC Airport mission critical services, i.e.; Microsoft Exchange Email, File Storage, Active Directory, VMware, Cloud Integration, Gateways, Print Servers, Backup Servers, Anti-Virus, LANDesk, Netmotion, DHCP, DNS, Network and Internet access, Camera Systems, Badging Systems, Building Automation Systems, VoIP System, and UNIX/Linux services. Troubleshoots and resolves network security issues. Responsible for providing the employees of Salt Lake City the ability to access the information they need to perform their jobs while protecting that data from intruders. Provides guidance and training to incumbents in other positions such as Network System Engineer I, Network Support Administrator and Technical Systems Analyst. Works with members of the Software Engineering Team, Business Analysts, and the Software Support Team on system implementations and upgrades as assigned. Expertise in enterprise Wireless Systems such as Cisco, Aruba, etc. Maintains network security devices including firewalls (such as Cisco ASA/Firepower and FortiNet), spam filters, Intrusion Detection Systems, Intrusion Prevention Systems, Virtual Private Networks, and Remote Access Services. Provides technical support of diverse networking hardware and software solutions in both central and remote locations. Provides feedback concerning the performance of network hardware and software resources to the Network Engineers, Network Engineering Team Manager and the Operations Manager. Responsible for network resources as assigned. Ensures these resources are updated and performing at optimum levels. Documents procedures that Network Systems Engineers and Network Support Administrators use to install, configure, and maintain clients and servers. Participates in large scale upgrades and installations. Reviews all proposed solutions to ensure they adhere to IMS standards and city policies. Performs various other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a four-year accredited college with a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field. In addition, 10 years experience in the administration of a network with multiple LANs and WANs. Equivalent combination of education and experience substituted on a year-for-year basis. Possession of one (or more) of the following certifications may be required: Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP); or two (2) of the following: Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA), Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA), Exchange, SharePoint, or other pertinent certification. Experience with project and resource management. Experience with server hardware, network devices, security devices, peripherals, and operating systems, including installation procedures, architecture, and troubleshooting techniques. Must show accountability and responsibility to see all projects and issues to an end resolution. Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in written form. Must have a valid state driver's license or Utah Driving Privilege card. WORKING CONDITIONS: Moderate physical effort. Comfortable working conditions, handling moderate weights, intermittent sitting, standing and walking. Intermittent exposure to moderate noise levels. May require 24/7 support for mission critical systems. Exposure to stressful situations. Career Ladder Note: After all qualification requirements for Network Systems Engineer III are met (including two years experience as a Network Systems Engineer II), incumbent may be promoted to a Network Systems Engineer III with approval of CIO and Department Head, provided sufficient funding is appropriated for the impacted budget year.
