Under the general direction of the Human Resources Division (HRD) Director at the California Department of Education, the Staff Services Manager (SSM) III oversees subordinate employees responsible for human resources activities, including position control, recruitment, civil service selection, examinations, classification and pay, payroll, benefits, and organizational management. The SSM III oversees the administration of the Payroll and Benefits Office, Classification and Pay Office and the Examinations and Recruitment Office. The SSM III, in collaboration with the HRD Director, manages all aspects of human resources compliance with relevant laws, rules, regulations, and policies. The SSM III leads digital innovation initiatives to build and manage a human capital management system that includes, but is not limited to electronic timesheets, position control, vacancy and turnover reporting, recruitment, and employee onboarding and offboarding to enhance human resources services and data analytics.

This position is subject to the Department's Conflict of Interest Code and required to file a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) upon assuming office, annually and upon leaving office.

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and physically reporting to the office.
