Job Description

General Description and Classification Standards

Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators. This is an experienced professional level (intermediate) capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the profession with limited guidance or review. This level would be considered promotional and attainable by any incumbents in a work group who demonstrate the necessary knowledge, ability and performance. Could be the only professional of this specialty in a work group.

Supervision Received

Performs work under general supervision with review and advice from manager or a senior level professional.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Sets up administrator and service accounts within the IT system.

• Maintains system documentation.

• Tunes system performance. Installs system wide software and allocates mass storage space.

• Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products.

• Assists in making recommendations to purchase hardware and software and coordinating installation and back up recovery.

• Monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.

Decision Making

Performs work under general supervision with review and advice from manager or senior level professional.

Leadership Provided

Informal or review; may be informal team leader or may review work of less experienced professionals or support staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering. 2 years of professional experience required (Additional professional experience of 2-4 years may be considered in lieu of a degree).

Preferred Education & Experience

Master's degree in computer science or engineering (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the master's degree on an exception basis) with 2-4 years of directly related professional work.

Licensures and Certifications

None required.
