Millis Development & Construction is a general contractor that focuses on commercial construction projects that have a landscape architect as the lead consultant. We provide our clients with quality large-scale parks, recreation centers, bridges, hardscape, and landscape which become the framework for active communities. Job description We are looking for a Senior Estimator with construction experience including, but not limited to, commercial buildings, earthwork, and concrete. This person will prepare accurate estimates for projects by gathering information from construction plans and specifications. This person will provide knowledge of cost and benefits that support profitable business decisions. The ideal candidate will have excellent numerical skills and an analytical mindset. Duties Responsible for conceptual, schematic, design development estimates, GMPs, lump sum bidding, and bid package coordination Perform quantity takeoffs (PlanSwift) Attend prebid meetings, site visits and bid turn ins Prepare work to be estimated by gathering specs, plans and proposals. Review and verify scope of work Prepare accurate and complete cost estimates (HeavyBid) Prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade specific clarifications and comprehensive bid packages. Solicit quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, qualify proposals Develop and maintain subcontractor/supplier list. Actively increase subcontractor pool Develop strong, professional relationships with key vendors and customers Demonstrate ability to pay attention to detail and accuracy Ability to make reliable predictions as it relates to cost and be comfortable estimating across all scopes of work Complete Post Bid Activities Other duties as assigned Requirements Minimum 7 years’ experience as a commercial estimator Experience with civil site development (earthwork, underground wet/dry utilities and flatwork) Ability to read plans and specifications Experience with HeavyBid or similar software Proficient with Microsoft Office & take off software Experience with Agtek or similar software helpful High sense of accountability and ability to handle multiple priorities at once Reliable transportation Self-motivated Exceptional verbal and written communication skills Team oriented, cooperative, and collaborative Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of construction practices and methods including contracts, estimating, specifications, scheduling, safety, and equipment Must have knowledge and understanding of unit costs and the factors that affect construction cost Must have experience with the bidding process: soliciting bids, communicating with the bidders, evaluating subcontractor proposals, using bid tally sheets, etc. Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study preferred A strong work ethic and a “can-do” attitude.
