JOB OBJECTIVE: Under the supervision of a physician and following written guidelines of protocol, the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife provides obstetric and gynecological care to patients in a primary health care center setting. The Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife reports to the Chief Medical Officer. Interacts with a multi-cultural population of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, levels of education and ages. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife performs the following duties and responsibilities: Takes complete and accurate personal health histories symptoms, physical conditions, or other diagnostic information. Performs screening physical examinations, including assessments and recommendations for further evaluation. Performs clinical procedures such as, but not limited to, gynecological exams, injections, immunizations, biopsies, IUD insertions, Nexplanon implants and removals, family planning, suturing, taking cultures, etc. Provide prenatal, intrapartum or postpartum care to patients. Screens laboratory and x-ray results bringing abnormalities to physician’s attention as needed. Diagnoses and treats, within limits of clinical competency, conditions requiring short or long-term managements and coordinates follow-up care of patients. Consults with or refers patients to appropriate specialists when conditions exceed the scope of practice or expertise. Identifies patients' educational needs and assists with appropriate instruction. Keep abreast of regulatory processes and payer systems such as Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and private sources Performs other duties as assigned including participation in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a current unrestricted license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the California State Board of Registered Nursing. Certified Nurse Midwife License to practice in the State of California strongly desired. Proficiency with use of computers and experience with use of electronic health records. Must be a team player, be detailed oriented, self-motivated.
