Oregon Women Lawyers (OWLS) was founded as a 501(c)(6) nonprofit professional association in 1989 to become the statewide women’s bar association for Oregon. The largest affinity bar in the state, OWLS exists to transform the legal profession by pursuing equitable access to the legal system and equity for women and communities who are systemically oppressed.Oregon Women Lawyers seeks a collaborative, enthusiastic, and visionary leader to serve as its Executive Director. The Executive Director will continue to build the organization’s impact and influence; promote OWLS and the OWLS’ mission; implement OWLS’ strategic goals and programs; support and collaborate with the organization’s Board of Directors, Committees and Chapters; provide organizational planning, fundraise and support financial management, Chapter development, public relations and marketing; and develop membership. The Executive Director implements the organization’s strategic direction under the supervision of the OWLS President and its Board of Directors. The Executive Director supervises one OWLS Program Coordinator.Responsibilities:
Organizational Planning:
Work with the Board of Directors to establish annual priorities and provide continuity to ensure that the organization’s goals are furthered through OWLS project Committees—including programmatic goals and fundraising goals.Committee Support:
Provide tools and support to volunteers to help them succeed in implementing events and projects. Events include the annual Roberts & Deiz Award Celebration, Chapter Summit, Fall CLE, and Committee CLEs, panels, networking, workshops, and other events.Board Support:
Provide support to OWLS’ Board of Directors for regular Board meetings, including coordinating with the Board President on meeting agendas and retreats and supporting materials. Keep board binder documents and correspondence updated and relevant. Stay current on local, national, and international events that relate to OWLS’ mission.Financial Management:
Sustain and grow strategic partnerships with members of the Oregon State Bar and others who can financially invest in OWLS’ sustainability. Write grants and pursue all appropriate fundraising avenues in coordination with the Board of Directors. Work with the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee to develop an annual budget for Board adoption. Assist Committee Chairs in developing project budgets. Ensure that fiscal policies are followed. Oversee finances and manage the budget.Chapter Development:
Encourage Chapter development, assist new Chapters with implementing activities, organize Chapter payments, and work with OWLS’ Program Coordinator to maintain regular communication with Chapter liaisons to assess needs and issues.Public Relations and Marketing:
Serve as the public face and spokesperson for OWLS. Conduct outreach with allied organizations. Build media relations and media coverage. In cooperation with Committees and contractors, coordinate publications, including OWLS’ quarterly newsletter, the AdvanceSheet.Membership Development:
In cooperation with the Board of Directors, set membership targets, identify strategies, and grow OWLS’ membership. Maintain, analyze, and summarize relevant data sets on events and membership to enable continuous quality improvement.Administration:
Ensure smooth day-to-day operations, policy recommendations, annual planning and supervise staff and manage volunteers and events.Leadership:
Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.Minimum Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree (or four years of relevant experience).Two years’ experience as a nonprofit Executive Director (or comparable experience, including fundraising, serving in a public-facing leadership position, supervising a team, working with a board of directors or officers, and/or budget creation and management).Excellent leadership and communication skills, including presentation, writing and interpersonal communications; track record of providing support to Committees that lead and implement projects.Knowledge of the Oregon State Bar, the legal profession, and/or challenges facing women and others outside the dominant culture in advanced professional practice.Experience working individually or with organizations to combat discrimination, eliminating bias, and advancing anti-racism efforts.Computer and internet literacy, including proficiency with online tools including social media. Organizational and staff leadership and supervision experience.This is anticipated to be a .75 to 1.0 FTE position with hybrid and/or remote work arrangements to be determined. It will require presence in, and travel to, locations throughout Oregon for various in-person events with members of the legal community, and in particular numerous in-person events in the greater Portland metro area.Anticipated salary is $82,851 for 1.0 FTE, with Simple IRA match after one year and employer provided medical insurance or contribution of up to $500 per month toward medical benefits.Job Types: Full-time, Part-timePay: $62,138.00 - $82,851.00 per yearExpected hours: 34 – 40 per weekBenefits:Flexible scheduleHealth insuranceRetirement planWork Location: Hybrid remote in Portland, OR 97204
