Paralegal
Basic Function/Nature and Scope

The Paralegal provides essential support to the Chief Legal Counsel by performing a variety of legal, administrative, and clerical tasks. This role includes conducting legal research, drafting documents, organizing files, and assisting the Chief Legal Counsel with legal project management. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced legal environment, and a solid understanding of legal procedures and terminology.

This position reports to the Chief Legal Counsel and Corporate Secretary and may manage Legal Department projects, including providing direction to employees assigned to project teams. The Paralegal must understand the general business structure, operations, systems, processes, and strategic goals. Basic knowledge of government and industrial contract work and contract research is beneficial but not required.

Essential Functions

Legal Research: Conduct legal research on statutes, regulations, case law, and legal precedents to support legal strategy. Responds to requests for information and prepares appropriate deliverables when requested.

Document Preparation and Drafting:Draft legal documents, including contracts, and correspondence, under the supervision of an attorney. Review and proofread legal documents to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with legal standards. Identify risks associated with a project and performance constraints as appropriate.

Administrative Duties: Assist the MRIGlobal Legal Team in a broad range of legal matters, including governance filings and reports, and contract management and administration. Handle client communications. Maintain databases for legal project work and contract management. Communicate work status, concerns, and expectations about project plans with the Chief Legal Officer and Legal Team. Comply with all legal regulations regarding EEO, standards of government contracting, environmental protection, MRIGlobal policy, etc.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Paralegal certification or other related field with a minimum of 1 year of related experience; OR Associate's degree in paralegal studies with 0-5 years of experience working as a paralegal in a law firm, corporate legal department, or government agency OR combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, and online legal databases. Proficient in Microsoft Office and contract management software.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and legal document formats.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and legal professionals.
  • U.S. Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in corporate law is a plus.
