DescriptionPerforms a variety of activities associated with the collection, accession and process of laboratory specimens for analysis, evaluation and/or diagnostic purposes. Supervises daily technical operations to ensure highest quality patient care consistent with established standards.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Supervises daily technical operations to ensure highest quality patient care consistent with established standards.Assists in in the hiring process for staff.Creates work schedules and oversees daily tasks.Assist supervisors with the implementation of SOPs for phlebotomy servicesCollects blood specimens as ordered by venipuncture and capillary puncture in accordance with all safety and infection control proceduresGreets patients and provides instructions to patients and patient's family on proper specimen collection and aftercarePrepares and affixes labels to specimen vials to ensure proper identificationProvides specimen collection material to patient; reviews and oversees proper urine collection methods with patient and/or patient family to minimize opportunity for contaminationMaintains accurate records, files and logs of collection and processing activitiesRecords, files and distributes reference lab reportsPerforms a variety of basic diagnostic tests using centrifuge and blood collection equipment as directed and supervised in accordance with CLIA regulationsInventories and requisitions medical laboratory supplies and stocks work area as needMay perform routine instrument and equipment cleaningAssists with departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiativesParticipates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with SupervisorEnsure staff is following all safety precautions Ensure facilities are neat, clean and in good repair, takes appropriate action to advise Medical Technologist Lead or Manager of required repairs and maintenance.Act as a coach, mentor, instructor and resource advisor for new employees, as well as be the point of contact to staff on site and provide regular input to the group lead or supervisor.Perform other duties as assignedRequirementsTwo years of previous phlebotomy experienceHigh School diploma or GED equivalentPhlebotomy Certification from accredited institution or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hireIndian Preference and Equal Employment Opportunity SCAHC gives preference in hiring to San Carlos Apache Tribal members and other Native Americans in accordance with the San Carlos Apache Tribe's Tribal Preference Policy, as set forth in Section 402 of the Tribe's Human Resources Department Policies and Procedures Manual.
