Job Overview
The Finance Manager plays a critical role in overseeing finance and accounting operations, encompassing accounts payable/receivable, budgeting, and reporting. This role ensures compliance and alignment with company policies while managing monthly, quarterly, and annual closings and optimizing workflows for accurate, integrated reporting.
The Finance Manager reports to the Sr. Finance Director and partners with finance and underwriting to deliver insightful decision support and business partnership. Leveraging deep industry expertise and proficiency in Guidewire and Sage Intacct, this role brings financial analysis, accounting acumen, and operational insight to drive company growth and enhance efficiency.
Compensation:
• For California based hires, the annual salary range is $120,000 to $180,000.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee daily financial operations, including accounts payable/receivable, budgeting, and financial reporting.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, closings, and filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Manage and optimize accounting workflows in both Guidewire and Sage Intacct, ensuring efficient integration and functionality across both systems.
• Work closely with the underwriting team to ensure accurate recording and reporting of premiums and commissions.
• Lead financial planning and forecasting processes, including annual budgeting, long-term planning, and scenario analysis.
• Collaborate with the CFO and executive team on strategic financial initiatives, including evaluating new business opportunities and optimizing capital allocation.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SAP); support audit processes and assist with audit preparation and documentation.
• Provide leadership and development opportunities for the finance team, fostering a high- performing and cohesive environment.
• Analyze and report on key financial metrics, including loss ratios, expense ratios, and return on equity, to inform decision-making and enhance profitability.
• Implement and maintain effective internal controls, with a particular focus on data integrity across Guidewire and Sage Intacct.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in accounting; public accounting experience preferred, MBA a plus.
• At least 5 years of experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance industry.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP required; familiarity with IFRS is a plus.
• Proficiency in SAP with demonstrated competency.
• Preferred experience with Guidewire and Sage Intacct.
• Advanced knowledge of accounting systems and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Excellent quantitative, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong financial analysis skills and logical reasoning.
• Proven success in developing and managing processes and leading teams.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• High commitment to confidentiality and integrity in handling financial information.
