Overview
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Tribal Gaming, the Internal Auditor's primary duties are to perform audits of all operational areas in order to verify the gaming operation is in compliance with all applicable National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) Minimum Internal Control Standards (MICS), Santa Ynez Tribal Gaming Ordnance, Tribal-State Compact, the Tribal Internal Control Standards (TICS), and the System of Internal Control Standards (SICS) established by gaming operation management and approved by the Santa Ynez Tribal Gaming Agency.
Responsibilities
Responsible for communicating instances of non-compliance or material weakness in the internal control system to the Gaming Commission and to gaming operation management. Assists Compliance Officers with investigations into areas of non-compliance and works closely with gaming operation management to ensure corrective actions adhere to regulations, protect tribal assets, and enable the detection of irregularities, theft, cheating, fraud, or the like, consistent with industry best practice. Observes operations, conducts interviews with key personnel, examines documentation, and analyzes data to test gaming operations for adherence to internal control standards. Evaluates the adequacy of controls established for accounting, administrative, and other operations that support gaming activity and makes recommendations designed to promote efficient and effective controls. Documents audit procedures and reports findings and material weaknesses to the Gaming Commission and gaming operation management via oral presentations and written audit reports. Makes recommendations for corrective actions regarding findings and internal control weaknesses. Ensures all required audits are properly completed and includes samples from a 12-month period (two 6-month periods) encompassing a portion of the most recent business year. Develops and implements audit programs and the annual audit plan. Refrains from excessive fraternizing with gaming operation employees to maintain independence and avoid the appearance of impropriety. Upholds a work environment that promotes teamwork, partnership, recognition, mutual respect, and collaboration, while role modeling the company values, behaviors, and culture of One.Team.Chumash. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED Certificate. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or equivalent work experience. Five years of prior experience in accounting or auditing setting. Knowledge of casino operations, and adhere to Generally Accepted Audit Standards, and the Institute of Internal Auditors Code of Ethics. Knowledge of NIGC MICS, Tribal-State Compact, and California Gambling Laws and other requirements applicable a casino and resort. Intermediate computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft applications, e-mail, and Internet. Willingness to work flexible schedules in a 24/7 work environment, including holidays, nights, and weekends. The individual in this position is prohibited from playing any games or entering any contests or promotions at the Chumash Casino Resort. Must apply for, receive, and maintain a Gaming License from the Tribal Gaming Agency. Native American hiring preference applies. Organizational Awareness:
