Cloud Lake Technology is looking for an Applications Engineer to support a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) prime contract that provides comprehensive support services for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to include planning, building, testing, deployment, stabilization of workstation changes, software distribution, patch management, service management, and program and administrative management related tasks. Responsible for analyzing, engineering, and testing application installation packages for Windows Operating Systems using MSI/MSIX, Flexera Admin Studio, and PowerShell in addition to other generally accepted scripting tools and knowledge. Duties for this role include integration of both vendors supplied applications and custom developed applications into the managed desktop environment while adhering to established change management policies and observing SOPs to ensure approved cybersecurity practices during the building/testing/deployment/analysis of software packages in the environment.
Responsibilities
Creates and customizes software packages using government provided hardware or software tools and utilities
Updates and maintains the software and service offerings to include the Windows OS and MacOS software catalogs, Microsoft Store business offerings, and Microsoft Endpoint Manager and Intune service offerings
Supports software packaging requests to include performing intake of the software packaging requests, packaging the software per requester requirements, and testing of the packaged software to ensure the package works as intended
Performs quality control to ensure all produced packages contain no omissions or errors
Implements security and compliance features
Creates deployment packages, prepare them for testing, impart changes required by test team, and ensure all changes meet the customer’s needs
Utilizes Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) to distribute content in a large environment by leveraging managed/targeted collections and enterprise deployment/patching cycles
Provides MECM progress and status reports regarding deployed applications as required when requested
Follows and contributes to documentation for the team and peer groups as needed to include SOPs, general technical bulletins, and troubleshooting workflows
Researches and develops desktop technology solutions that ensure consistency and standardization across the enterprise as directed by senior team members
Assists with maintaining and upgrading the Flexera Admin Server and software and provide documentation review and edits as needed to support the platform
Stays abreast of new technology and provide detailed assessments of the current platform to support application packaging and distribution
Familiarity with Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Intune, troubleshooting Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and Group Policy Preferences (GPPs) and their effects on applications, Operating Systems and general configurations
Qualifications
The candidate shall possess 3+ years of relevant hands-on experience
The candidate shall currently have a bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or Information Technology. Demonstrated 7+ years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree
Relevant Certifications in either A+, Security+/Network+, OS, ITIL, Entra, Intune, MECM and/or M365 Desktop Administrator Associate, or M365 Certified Endpoint Administrator Associate are preferred
3+ years of experience providing application packaging and patching experience in a mid to large scale enterprise desktop system environment
Knowledge building and editing MSI/MST files for enterprise distribution utilizing Flexera and AdminStudio
Experience utilizing scripting and/or programming languages such as C++ (Visual Studio), VBScript, and PowerShell to automate processes and manage system configuration
Expertise utilizing Microsoft Configuration Manager to create packages, applications, deployments, task sequences and report on associated status of those items
Demonstrated experience within a distributed environment of at least 5,000 workstations and/or servers, 20,000+ workstations a plus
Thorough understanding of Windows Installer technology and experience configuring applications for silent or unattended deployments
Familiarity with Active Directory, troubleshooting Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and Group Policy Preferences (GPPs) and their effects on applications, Operating Systems and general configurations
Excellent process-oriented skills with regards to configuration management and troubleshooting within a large, complex enterprise
Experience with the same in a DHS component a plus
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Be able to obtain and maintain a favorable CBP suitability determination
Must be a U.S. citizen
Ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance is preferred as responsibilities in program/portfolio management grow within the company
Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate and thorough documentation
Strong understanding of Windows 10 and 11 operating systems
Packaging experience building and editing MSI/MSIX/MST files for enterprise distribution
Ability to multi-task and be creative and innovative in a dynamic, fast paced matrix team environment
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across diverse audiences and influence cross functionally
Exposure to Cloud Endpoint Management (MS Entra ID, Microsoft Intune, etc.)
Knowledge of Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (or similar product)
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to balance responsibilities among assigned activities; including the ability to manage transitions effectively from task to task, and adaptability to varying customer needs
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Pay Range
$85,000 - $95,000
