The University of Mississippi is seeking a dynamic and talented Associate Director of Student Leadership and Engagement to join our team at the Ole Miss Student Union. The Gertrude C. Ford Ole Miss Student Union serves as the center of student life on the Ole Miss campus while supporting the education mission of the university by enhancing the collegiate experience with quality programs, facilities, and services. The Ole Miss Student Union (OMSU) department serves as the hub for all 400+ Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) on campus as well as the online student organization portal, The ForUM. Our OMSU staff advises several key student organizations and assists those organizations in coordinating over 200 events and activities throughout the academic year. Additionally, the department manages the general operations of the facility which includes space reservations, student employees, and event planning for the facility. Role Summary
This position oversees daily operations, supervises leadership programming, student activities, and student organization management, and provides strategic vision for the department. The role also involves interpreting and updating policies, developing student leadership programs, providing support for the Associated Student Body, and managing budgets and event processes. Other responsibilities include creating professional development plans, preparing reports, fostering revenue generation, and representing the department on committees. The position also establishes goals, assesses outcomes, and supports departmental staffing and training while contributing to university-wide initiatives. Examples of Work Performed
Directs daily operations of assigned areas in the department and makes necessary decisions in the absence of the Director. Supervises and monitors assigned program areas including but not limited to leadership programming, student activities, and student organization management. Provides vision, strategic planning, and guidance for the department. Navigates, interprets, and proposes changes to student programming and Registered Student Organization (RSO)-related policies, procedures, and operations. Manages the development of student leadership curriculum and programming for students. Serves as a supporting advisor to the Associated Student Body and offers primary guidance including but not limited to event planning, leadership development, financial accountability, student activity fee allocation process, and risk management. Develops and interprets university policies for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Oversees the management of the RSO event registration process and related RSO trainings. Develops, manages, and serves as the primary administrator for the budget within each assigned program area. Engages in local, state, and/or national workshops and conferences. Establishes, implements, and monitors short and long-range goals for assigned areas. Develops student learning outcomes and assessments. Assists with departmental staffing plans, development, hiring, evaluations, and departmental hiring policies. Creates professional development plans for staff reports. Completes projects assigned by the Director of the Ole Miss Student Union. Provides leadership, guidance, and supervision for support staff. Prepares budget proposals, annual reports, and revenue generation initiatives for assigned areas. Develops and implements programs to foster revenue generation. Represents the Ole Miss Student Union department and the University of Mississippi on various committees, boards, and associations. Serves on the Student Organizational Conduct Intervention Team. Essential Functions
Plans and executes one or multiple student programs, activities, and/or services. Evaluates and promotes existing strategies and makes recommendations to unit leadership for program enhancement. Contributes to the design of a suite of student-focused programming and associated resources and materials to promote new and ongoing programs and initiatives. Resolves questions and issues escalated by individual students and groups using discretion beyond established guidelines. Monitors the program budget and approves expenditures. Supervises the day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and resolves routine personnel issues. Education:
