Environmental Investigator III Print (https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/houston/jobs/newprint/4736115) Apply  Environmental Investigator III Salary $2,106.84 - $2,456.98 Biweekly Location 7411 Park Place Job Type Full Time Job Number 35503 Department Houston Health Department Division BPCP - Bureau Pollution Control and Prevention Opening Date 11/20/2024 Closing Date 11/27/2024 11:59 PM Central Description Benefits Questions POSITION OVERVIEW Applications Accepted From: All Persons Interested PN: 35503 Division: Environmental Health Section: Pollution Control & Prevention Workdays/ Hours: M-F, 6 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. Subject to change DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Conducts daily field collection of samples from an ambient air sampling network developed to monitor pollutants in the environment. • Calibrates, operates, troubleshoots, and ensures the proper maintenance of program specific instrumentation and technical equipment. • Reviews field activity and data enters sampling and maintenance documentation, daily, weekly, monthly and annually as required. • Compiles sampling documentation and observational reports for use as legal evidence in the prosecution of violators. • Serves as maintenance and inventory lead or quality assurance and training lead for the program. • Role will require becoming an authorized trainer of program specific functions for new or backup staff. • Participates in Special Projects as assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT There are occasional exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve infrequent exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Health Engineering or a closely related degree. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Two (2) years of pollution/environmental control experience are required. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS None PREFERENCES Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. SALARY INFORMATION GRANT Funded Grants & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
